From Funimation:
We will re-announce this title with a new release date in Quarter 1 2007, and there will be other major announcements concerning the property at that time. These season sets are being enhanced and restored, and many new features are being added. Runtimes and packaging will also be different.

Did they say the sets are being enhanced and restored? Could this mean...COULD IT BE?

OH GOD! OH GOD!!! OH GOD!!!!!!!!!!
Please let it be DragonBox footage and extras! Lance did mention there was a possibility... I thought he was talking out his ass at the time but it seems it truely is a possibility! As for the major announcement... Could it be DB and DBGT are getting enhanced too?
I can't wait to ask them at their Comic-Con panel!

Well, I guess this is a good news/bad news kinda thing. I'm just glad that we're getting some kind of new enhanced footage. I just re-watched the last Kid Buu episodes and was pretty disgusted at how grainy the picture was.

I'm not happy about delay but I'll get over it. I am happy about the improved quality of the video and new packaging. But what about the runtime for the set? I hope they don't turn them into saga sets or cut the number of episodes down much. Maybe they'll add more, maybe. Hopefully Lance, the FUNimation representative, can shed some much needed light on what's going on with the series during the upcoming Comic-Con.

Yeah, I'll be a little sad to wait too but it will be well worth it if we can get the Dragonbox footage. I always thought Funimation was really stubborn about that sort of thing though so I wont get my hopes up too high...

Been coming to this site for YEARS. But I had to ask this question for my first post.
Am I the only one who really doesn't want the Dragon Box footage?
Is it cleaner? Sure, but are the colors correct? Everytime I've ever seen screen shots, the saturation seems to have been boosted. I believe the Vegeta eps were encoded into XVid a long time ago from DBox footage and put out there, and the colors just look wrong! Too wrong for my tastes! I seem to remember a few scenes where the sky was teal where I remember it being blue... is that just me? (ep 34 to be specific?)
Also, there is no guarantee the Funi DVDs will use the same MPEG streams from the Dragon Box sets. Several episodes are riddled with MPEG artifacts, and this is probably Funi's fault for not footing the bill for decent MPEG-2 encoding. There still a chance they'll make DVDs from good sources, but have lousy encodes (although I'll have to admit, several eps have good encodes, but I'm thinking of the Cell games where there is a lot of blocky-ness).
Either way, I have roughly 75% of all the eps currently out of DB and DBZ. i don't want to re=purchase those eps. I do hope they release the first part of the Freeza saga with the current footage mainly because I want all the eps with a consitent look and feel to them. Not to watch them from one ep to the next and have color changes thru them.
Now, if they get the colors/contrast/saturation correct, then its fine with me... but I don't see it happening. (maybe they'll just release the first half of the Freeza saga as a box set for Xmas just to make me happy? )
Sorry for the rant...

Well, there may be some kind of underground society of people who also admit to not liking the DragonBox footage. Just to clarify things, the remastered footage does look pretty pale, according to guys who have on of them, but it also has the complete picture, as opposed to the slightly zoomed in footage that FUNi's got.doobiedoo wrote:Am I the only one who really doesn't want the Dragon Box footage?
Eh, it wasn't as long as the stuff I usually postdoobiedoo wrote:Sorry for the rant...
After fully taking in this news, I was kinda under the impression that someone from FUNi was reading the Complete Vegeta Saga post, since it seems as if this delay may just give us the bonus material and little nooks and crannies that we all want.

Watch an actual legitimate release, not what some pirate shoved out. The colours on the Dragonbox technically ARE the original colours and are less muted than the US version.doobiedoo wrote: Is it cleaner? Sure, but are the colors correct? I am hoping this means they get the right to Dragonball episodes 1-13.

Wow. You're comparing an XVid encode (which, I'll guarantee you, was nowhere near the quality of the original VOB's) to the original Region 2 sets? Sorry man, that's not even a valid comparison. And the colors are perfect on my actual, legitimate copies in the episode you referenced.doobiedoo wrote:Is it cleaner? Sure, but are the colors correct? Well i've decided to take this as good news because it will give them time to add in all of the extras that i would like. I was disappointed at first, because i planned on getting the set on it's original release date but then i quickly got over it because they will be better. I just hope the price stays the same.
It is impossible to improve upon perfection.

Dale Kelly is a scary man ._.;
VEEEERY EEENTERESTING though. I hope they include some more stuff similiar to the special feature on the first Ultimate Uncut DVD, or at least some commentaries on certain episodes. That and obviously the glorious Dragonbox footage sounds yummy if that is the possible case. I look forward to that.

Aw man, I remember watching that episode on demand a few months ago and was like, "Wow, FUNi's not really aiming for the timeless look for the series, are they?" That, and Bulma calling Vegeta 'homeboy'Castor Troy wrote:I wonder if we'll get the previews for the first time in US DBZ history.
I would love to hear "KRILLIN'S IN DA HOUSE" again.
Anyways, more of the thoughts on the set: Yeah, I was getting kinda confused when FUNi still didn't have the "next episode" previews for their UUEs. Did the original JP run always have a preview? I was kinda under the impression that they didn't start until the Freeza Saga, but then again that's about the same time that Pioneer's license expires
Now that it's been confirmed that they're releasing the entire series in these sets, they better get the numbering system right. It would be pretty strange of them to have two sets of episodes numbered 1-67.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Hm, if they do get the DragonBox masters and don't muck them up too bad, I'd consider looking at these.
For those of you who've pre-ordered the set, did you get any e-mails telling you about the delay?
