For those of you going to Comic-con (or any con, really)

Well, it's summer, so that means that some of us are gonna be going to some anime cons and maybe even get some info on our favorite series DB/Z/GT!

But on the other hand, not all of us can go to cons due to whatever's going on. So... I figured that this was the best place to have a bunch of those guys (including me!) post up some questions for those FUNi and Viz reps out there.

Also note that I don't want any of these questions answered here, since I'm aiming for these to be questions for the reps. And don't go ruining the quesiton and saying that it's not going to happen; If FUNi can release season sets, then anything's possible :D.

Well, here are my questions that I want answered:
For Viz: They've been releasing Profile and Illustration Books for titles like Kenshin and One Piece. Are they gonna be releasing any of those books for the DB series?

For FUNi: Any details on their future DB releases. For example, stuff like DB eps 1-13, Movie 13, future boxed sets, etc.

For those going to any con, please consider keeping track of some of these questions being put up here. It would benefit us all if you actually got an answer :).

Q. Are you going to purchase the original masters from Toei?

A. No, because our boss is a cheapskate.

From what I heard, things like that aren't exactly Funimation's fault. Hear Toei's been kind of stingy and greedy about things lately.

Actually Super Sonic, Toei always were anal about giving licensing rights for their shows and movies. Of all the Japanese anime companies, when it comes to dealing with foreign market, Toei is probably the worst of 'em all. As long as they have their own successful market back in Japan, they never show much of an interest to have their shows licensed in other countries. Since the company was founded in 1950, they produced 300+ anime series and movies. And of all those, only about 15-20 were ever licensed here in U.S. And that's a very low number.

Yep, they were just as stingy with Sailor Moon. The two uncut boxed sets of the first two seasons that ADV put out basically got the same treatment as DB. They got lousy sound and picture, while the DVDs that Toei has been putting out in Japan are a lot better quality. Also, they can't truly be called "complete" since Toei didn't give every single episode. There are at least two missing. Then the fact that Toei pulled the license on ADV after only a year of them having the rights and you can see Sailor Moon fans here got the shaft just as bad. I recall ADV mentioning even how hard they were to negotiate with when they tried to renew the license. Toei refuses to have Sailor Stars ever see the light of day over here because of the nature of that season. They don't want their outside market to take a loss since in other countries, Sailor Moon is popular with the little girl demographic and if certain nations knew about that season, they'd pull the plug on Sailor Moon there.

Toei is basically a part of Toho. One of the oldest and biggest film companies. Which also means you have a lot of "money-grubbing bigwigs", just like with studios in Hollywood. When you view it this way, it explains a looooot about they're foolish behaviour, er I mean "motives". >>

Another big reason why I believe they've been stingy is because they actually deluded themselves into thinking they could distribute their series over here on their own. Basically with no knowledge and experience of the North American market, they thought this would work. Yep that lasted all of five seconds. Two words: Slam Dunk.

Anyway, Funi has made mistakes too, but it's uniformed and unfair to put all the blame on them. At least we aren't missing any episodes in our DB sets.
Jerseymilk: "Can I tell you something?"
B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."
