Over in Japan, it's April 5th, which means it's the birthday of a pretty good manga artist; Akira Toriyama.
There's lots of artists who draw and write nowadays. We all have our different favorites. And while we all got our own preferences and such, each artist that really hits the writing game tends to leave a pretty big impact. And, whether we are of good or bad opinions, there's only one person named Akira Toriyama who changed the shounen manga genre in, arguably, the biggest way.
To an awesome and revolutionary manga artist,
Happy Birthday!

Why does Goku look absolutely stoned in that artwork? Is this how Toriyama celebrates his parties?

Happy birthday to my favorite mangaka. Not only did he change the Shonen Genre, he's the reason countless fans are anime fans to begin with. I know if it weren't for Z I wouldn't have gotten into anime when I did and I may never have.

Toriyama's a phenomenal talent, and I'm glad to be reminded he's only sixty-two years young.

I know this is thrown around a lot but he's anything but lazy. The amount of work he put into DB and Dr. Slump on a weekly schedule for 15 years would be enough to drive a lot of potential mangaka away from the industry.
You can tell from reading the Buu arc that he was at the end of his game, that he was very tired but that didn't stop him from doing his very best to end the manga on a high note, something that other long running manga writers are failing at.

The guy single handedly changed the entire Shonen genre so he's a genius for sure. there have been big manga names that came after DB like Naruto and One Piece to name a few but as of now none of them have managed to have the impact that Toriyama and DB had on the genre and industry as a whole.

of course toriyama is genius in the shonen world, with out him,we wouldn't have op,hxh and Naruto,so I Thank him for that, but sometimes his story are lackluster, like rof and minus, and introducing PL is not a good idea, and yeah I know toriyama had a hard job back when, but I just feel like, him introducing zenkai in the Middle in the namek arc, felt kinda lazy, and the fact, super Saiyan is the only way to be revelant is not a good idea, toriyama maybe an entertaining writer but sometimes he don't think outside of the box, through he knows how to developed his character, even if the majin Buu arc felt lacklustre,I will Never forget the amazing devolplement from Buu, Satan and of course vegeta

If you think about it that only started with the new material.
In the Cell arc Piccolo was relevant and Tien had a major scene when he held off Cell. The other characters were also pretty involved in one way or another.
In the Buu arc Piccolo was a major supporting character and Buu and Satan played main roles in Kid Buu's defeat. Tien also made a nice cameo.
In terms of RF and Minus, he could've done so much more with them so you're right about tham but I was mainly focusing on the original manga cause that's what changed everything.

I argue if piccolo was relevant in the cell arc,all he did was cost more problems, but his cast usage was great in namek and saiyan arc and maybe majin Buu, just because dende, Satan and Buu were relevant to the story and tien got a cool Cameo, but dear God, let's not continue this conversation ,we should save it for another thread
