Wierd question time: Can Namekians drown?

I was watching a sprite fight where Broly takes out the rest of the Z warriors and the first one he comes accross is Piccolo, who's on Namek oddly enough.

Even more strange is that Broly kills him by DROWNING HIM.

I called foul at first but it made me think. CAN a namekian drown?

I'm not trying to prove or disprove the validity of a silly sprite fight. I'm far beyond that. I just thought that it made for a good conversation point.

Yes.

A fish can drown, in certain circumstances such as an abundance of algae consuming all the oxygen in the water, the fish will not be able to intake oxygen threw their gills as they pass by the water.

If a fish can drown.

Certainly a terrestrial species can as well.

This is running under the assumption biology is similar in DBZ as it is in the real world.
And i'm also making assumptions that Piccolo's breathing is similar to human's unless otherwise stated in the anime.

That and the fact that they're supposedly slug men.

Surviving on nothing but water doesn't change that it can kill them if it's taken into the body in a way different than normal. They gain all the nutrients they need from water if it's passed through their digestive system, but if it is inhaled and enters the respiratory system, then it's going to drown them. Even though humans can't get everything they need from water, it's fundamentally the same system. We can take in water via the digestive system no problem, but when it enters our respiratory system, we drown, as it prevents air from entering the lungs and we lack the physiology to process the oxygen out of water to survive.

Hm. Guess it would have been a different story if they had gills. Oh well, question is answered in my book.
