Best Daizenshuu?

Post by The S » Wed Apr 14, 2004 2:21 pm

Okay, I have a question about daizenshuus. Next month, I will be chaperoning a field trip to a rather vast Asian marketplace. The Kinokunya Bookstore, at least last time I was there, held every Daizenshuu, plus the GT Perfect Files. However, I did not buy any, as they were asking $25 a piece, and I only had $30, which I needed for lunch, as well as my regular manga.

So, what my question is, is which do you find to be the best issue, and why? And please, do NOT say "um, Daizenshuu EX is the best one", because I will thump you with the hilt of my sword.

I think the first Daizenshyu is the best one because it's got the thing I love the most, artwork. It's the only one I have and I plan on getting that new DBZ book called Dragon Ball Forever.

Agreed. However, if you want LOTS of info (pretty much all) then get #7. It also has little known facts (like inter-relations between planets, the DB chronology, what happened to Lunch, etc). At the back is a series of pics of every individual manga chapter ever (except the ones that acted as page 1 of that week's chapter). It also has "lost images" or whatever with "Prillin" (fan demanded fusion of Krillin+Piccolo) and conceptual art made by Toriyama for GT. It's by far my fav, mind you I've only read two.

Actually, Daizenshuu are information books. Collectively, they have the power levels, timelines, characters lists, etc. Dragon Ball GT has the Perfect Files.

Damned if I know.. The others can probably give you more info, but you can probably get it on Amazon.co.jp or E-Bay.

Omarion, you can find three of them at animebooks.com

I recommend #1 of the Daizenshyuu's if you're going to buy one at that place.

Eat that, foo!

But so far, #7 seems to be "winning"...

You can’t really be surprised though, the Seventh edition has like all the best information you can get on Dragon Ball.

Okay, here's an easier way: someone who is in the know, please list the "features" of each DBZ guide, in other words, the pros & cons. That might make my shopping a tiny bit easier...

The biggest thing anyone should consider is that... uhhh... all the daizenshuu are in Japanese. Volume 7 is heavily text-oriented. If you like pictures, go with #1 (Complete Illustrations), #3 (TV Animation Part 1), #5 (TV Animation Part 2), and/or #10 (TV Animation Part 3).

My first was actually #6, the movie / TV special guide. I loved it then, and still love it now. I guess even if you don't know Japanese (*raises hand*) it's still a good own. #2, #4, and #7 are probably not the best purchases if you don't know Japanese, unless you really want to collect them all...

Well, I can't READ Japanese, but I do have a handy-dandy stack of Japanese dictionaries!

That lots of women dye their hair. This is hardly the most controversial statement I've ever made.

Liam: First of all, how on earth did your answer end up in the Daizenshuu thread? And secondly, I wasn't implying that it was a controversial statement at all. I honestly didn't know what you meant and was just wondering. :)

That's very odd. I meant to reply "You'll be using that dictionary a lot. It's one thing to translate sentences, but those Daizenshuu are filled with text. It'll take for ever."

But it didn't. Strange.
