This is seriously getting ridiculous..
It's taking WAAAYYY too long. And in my honest opinion, it's completely and totally unneccesary.
So.. How long ago did the Future Trunks/Goku Black/Zamasu arc end...?
I believe it was on 19 November last year when Omni-King blew up that timeline if i'm not mistaken.. So HOW MANY MONTHS exactly has that been!????
Let's see around — 7 MONTHS! That's more than HALF A YEAR!!!
All filler, no actual serious "arc".. and on top of that the filler has been largely a total mess and crap (Powerscaling for instance).
Now don't get me wrong! I don't mind a few "Filler" episodes here and then, since they are just as much a part of the show as the serious fighting story arcs, but come on.. this is getting ridiculous. First we already had to wait for over 3 months to get to the mini-tournament. (The "exhibition match") and then they decide to add another 4 months on top of it, before the REAL THING can start! And honestly, i have lost a huge amount of interest in dragon ball in these last 7 months. (Half year +!) the quality of writing style has been extremely low (Krillin and 17 Vs Blue Goku for instance) and Roshi Vs Base Goku. (Among many other examples).
But now i'm just dying for things to get real. And not take THIS LONG. And like i already said, i have no problem with A FEW filler episodes here and there, but 7 months, of which only 2 or 3 episodes included something more serious (exhibition tournament) is just totally unneccesary.
What are your thoughts???
Do you also agree that THE AMOUNT of these types of episodes is too much and uncalled for?
Let me know your thoughts!
Dragon Ball Super has taken a HUGE nosedive since the Black Arc ended.

I think that this arc is well paced! Zamasu's one should've been that long, now it's like the old days of DBZ, and i'm very happy with it, and i hope to see more chill episodes, not only fights when the tournament begins or it will be boring... i want to see fights, conversations, flashbacks, and also fillers...
most of us watched DBZ everyday, not every weekend like DBS, and maybe that's wny we weren't complaining about the pace of the series on the past
i really hope it continues this way, for me the only setback of the previous arc was that it was too short. When the series come to Brazilian TV, i will like to watch DBS everyday and end it after a year (i'm hoping to see DBS with 300+ episodes), like it was with DBZ and its 291 episodes

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
I do not pay, so I do not complain. Simple.
The fillers are not disturbing me, in fact I love them. The Great Saiyaman filler and the Kurilin one were awesome. Episodes 77 to 86 are really good, and 90 to 94 are awesome to me.
The only one I'm a bit sad of are 87 (unnecessary), 88 (wasted), and 89 (silly). I don't mind waiting 10 episodes, they may need this time too. Don't be selfish here.

A lot of us complained back during the universe 6 tournament arc because of how quick everything went. I think that arc would be remembered a lot more fondly if we had a few episodes showing Champa and Vados recruiting Hit, Cabba, Frost etc, and showing us what they do daily. Giving each of them about an episode each would have greatly benefited the arc rather then them just being thrown at us once the tournament began.
Any way, besides an episode or two, I've been really enjoying these "pre tournament of power episodes". So much so, that even if the tournament it self isn't spectacular, I can at least walk away saying most of the arc was good, if not great.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
I agree that there is a little too much padding. But It's not filler. Them gathering members is part of the story. If one does not find them interesting then that's one thing, and it's totally understandable, but not being interesting doesn't make them filler. There are many canon things in any series that aren't interesting. Some often say that the Skypia arc in One Piece is boring, but it's still canon to it's story. (I liked Skypia)
For the sake of pacing we could use a few less episodes maybe. The space poacher one for example could have been left out for the most part. Some episodes probably could have been taken apart and put together as fewer episodes. But having these episodes is fine, I wouldn't have liked it if Goku put out the Z symbol in the sky and everyone shows up ready to fight. Especially if they are trying to sell us on the idea of Krillin, 17, taking part in a huge event. And for the most part I feel that they have been entertaining and engaging.
Plus a lot say that it's most likely to give them breathing room to make a higher quality tournament. What with Supers well known production issues, it's not surprising that they would need as much padding as possible to get things in order. As much as they possibly could anyway. Of course, I'll have to see how the tournament plays out before I decide if all of it was worth it or not. But until then I'm willing to cut some slack.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
I don't consider this the Universe Survival arc. So far I call it the "The Gathering" Arc. The actual ToP starts on July 2nd. You could say that, instead of believing that all this is just "filler", and what's up with all the CAPS!?
Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
I fully agree with you, although building up to big events is a good idea, I think they could've done it in a lesser amount of episodes. I hope this is being done to buy time to produce better episodes for the actual tournament but the most likely reason is that they want to get as much $$$ as they can from people who are interested in buying the show. Out of the 96 episodes that we'll have before the tournament, only 46 of them are "main" content episodes while everything else is either movie retellings (27 episodes) or filler (23 episodes) which is over half the show.

July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
The last few episodes 91-94 have been great and add anticipation and background for the tournament. It hasn't actually been that long but it feels that way because the 10 or so before that had very little content actually going on. Episodes like that are supposed to build character, and a character simply appearing in that episode doesn't mean it actually built character.
They call them filler because of how much padding is between events that should have taken much less time to actually occur, and makes it seem like much more time is passing and sometimes feel like they purposely put as little content as possible into a 20 minute window. It's completely opposite to these last 4 episodes where there is tons of content packed into 20 minutes, where it feels like an entirely different series.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
The only really bad episodes in this stretch was the second 17 episode with the space alien poachers, and maybe the Roshi/Tenshinhan episode, but the latter could have been replaced with a better Roshi/Tenshinhan recruitment episode.
Everything else is either good, fine, or serves it's purpose. This is the biggest tournament they've ever done with the most amount of main characters and the most amount of new characters competing.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
I'm totally burned out on the TV show, I really only still tune into it every week because it consumes so little time. That said, I really do like what we're getting episode to episode at the moment, but I'm still not hooked with the overarching narrative itself, which is not a good thing given that this arc has already run almost as long as the FT Arc did.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
I absolutely could not disagree with you more. TOEI has finally stepped UP their game with this arc. Better scheduling, more consistent art and animation, new filter, new opening and music, this arc is what Super should have been like from the beginning.GodVegetto91 wrote:Dragon Ball Super has taken a HUGE nosedive since the Black Arc ended.
You seem to think the Future Trunks arc had way better pacing than what we currently had, yet (one of) the biggest complaints about the Future Trunks arc was that its pacing was horrendous. There'd be episodes where just about nothing would happen or have too much focus on Pilaf, or they'd just keep going back and forth between the future and present, before you got to an episode that was just jam-packed with plot and action which felt rushed. Things went too fast, and too much time was spent on unimportant things like the Pilaf gang, which only further screwed up the rushed pacing with the actual plot. Then there was the incredibly rushed ending with Vegito Blue lasting a whopping 4 minutes of screentime. I sure as hell don't want a repeat of that, I don't know why anyone would want a repeat of that.
I understand people's frustration with the pacing, but you have to think of it this way. Sure it's more satisfying when you're waiting every single week for the next episode to hit if the episodes are all action packed and full of plot and etc. jammed into 22 minutes, but when you actually watch the episodes back-to-back like they were meant to, you really appreciate the pacing because while each individual episode might not be exciting, the entire arc as a whole will be so much more fleshed out and entertaining as a result. All you really need to do to prove this is to go watch the Future Trunks arc now that you can watch it in its entirety without waiting week after week. Most people who have rewatched it this way noted how boring and rushed it felt as compared to when they were watching the episodes as they came out.
Patience is a virtue. If you wait, you will be rewarded.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
I disagree.
These episodes are necessary.
What's the point of diving straight into the tournament without knowing or caring about 99% of the characters participating?
We haven't seen the universe 7 characters aside from Goku/Vegeta do anything for ages, and this recruitment arc has given most of them much needed shine.
It's imperative for us to get to know about the other universes since there won't be any time e for that in the tournament itself.
Most of everything has served a purpose.
Is powerscaling really the on!y thing you could list that makes this "mess" or "crap"? Aside from powerscaling, the quality of the series has improved since the beginning, not taken a nosedive.
I understand that this had been lengthy and it absolutely could have been shortened, but I don't agree with it being unnecessary.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
do people call the great saiyanman arc filler?
It's not filler, it's just slow pacing. it's not like most of these have been bad either.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
Would it really be that much more valued? I definitely think establishing various fighters and going heavily into the ensemble cast format is the correct way to go, but U6 arc was just a tournament. No twist, no major unexpected developement etc. If Universal Survival ends up the same way, all the good buildup will only help so much so I sure hope it gets interrupted half-way through, or leads into massive uprising against Zen-oh or something. Anything really, just not another straight-forward tournamentDHM211 wrote:A lot of us complained back during the universe 6 tournament arc because of how quick everything went. Exactly! This pace allows the show to flesh out the characters, do some worldbuilding, hype up the plot, etc.Cursemark505 wrote:What's the point of diving straight into the tournament without knowing or caring about 99% of the characters participating?
People want this arc to begin and end in like 15 episodes, but what is the satisfaction in that? How much could you even do in that amount of time?

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
This would make sense if we'd gotten a look at other universes rather than having a series of mini-stories with the ones we already know. As-is, we still don't know a thing about 55-ish of the fighters participating. That's still about 70% of the fighters that the TV show could've donated precious time to rather than wasting it in a universe we already know everything relevant about. I could understand convincing #17 and Gohan's training, but the rest of this time should've been allocated to setting up other characters, if anything at all.Cursemark505 wrote:What's the point of diving straight into the tournament without knowing or caring about 99% of the characters participating?

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
With all the characters being recruited like 18, Krillin, Roshi, Tien, Piccolo, etc. who we have not heard about or done anything relevant in what seems like forever, I think it's important to have episodes dedicated to each of them. Yeah they're characters we all know about already, but we haven't seen them do anything in forever. It's good for the show to remind us "Hey, remember Tien?" or "Hey, remember 18 and how she can fight?" rather than just them showing up and fighting.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:This would make sense if we'd gotten a look at other universes rather than having a series of mini-stories with the ones we already know. I'd like to think we fans all have a superior attention span than your average squirrel. If my optimism has any roots in fact, we didn't need those episodes.Asura wrote:With all the characters being recruited like 18, Krillin, Roshi, Tien, Piccolo, etc. who we have not heard about or done anything relevant in what seems like forever, I think it's important to have episodes dedicated to each of them.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
It has nothing to do with attention span. It's just bringing focus back on these characters who are actually incredibly relevant in this arc, and not just side characters that show up for two minutes in some episodes to pop in and say hi.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:I'd like to think we fans all have a superior attention span than your average squirrel. I mean, how relevant has 18 been in Super? Has she been relevant at all? If 18 just showed up the day of the tournament without any amount of focus on her at all I would just shrug and say Okay, the show doesn't want me to care about her so I won't.

Re: This is seriously getting ridiculous..
Do you not know who she is anymore? It has everything to do with attention span, you shouldn't need a reintroduction to characters just because they haven't been terribly relevant for a while. It's not like they were all off on another planet or something, #18 has been hanging around this whole time, and her personality hasn't changed a terribly huge amount. Not that she got her own episode anyway, but let's say the same about Kuririn. He's not a different guy, it's the same skilled fighter we've known from the start.Asura wrote:I mean, how relevant has 18 been in Super? Has she been relevant at all?
