Is there anything I can do about the ridiculous file sizes this codec gives me?

I'm not so sure that you can. What you could do though, is download the Adobe Premiere AVS Plugin. That allows you to directly use the VOB's within an AVS Script instead of having to make huge AVI files. I've never used the plugin before, and I don't know if it's frame accurate. I seem to remember that it was included in the AMVApp on AnimeMusicVideos.Org
I have no idea if it's still up though.

That's the whole point of HuffyUV; it's a lossless codec. You can't have something that loses NO quality and still have it be a small filesize.

But what are you trying to do with it? Are you exporting your final video off of the timeline in HuffyUV? That's what you should be doing. It's not your online distribution codec; you take the HuffyUV and encode something like an MPEG or an XviD from that.

Are you making little clips here and there that you're bringing into your timeline to edit with? Well, HuffyUV is probably still the way to go, because you don't want to be lossly-compressing clips before they get to your timeline and end up getting lossly-compressed again later for distro.

If you provide a little more context about what it is exactly that you're doing, I can offer more help.

I'm actually doing that, yeah. The only way to get the size down is to make smaller clips?
