In the book, do they have every chapter page picture from the Boy Arc through the Frieza Arc like the Daizenshyu #7?

This has come up before, and I keep meaning to ask: What on earth is the "boy arc"? Surely it's not the period from the beginning of the series all the way up until just before the fight with Piccolo?

I mean the very first part, the beginning.

Everything up to the initial training with Kame Sen'nin? I'd have called that the Pilaf saga, if anything.

Are there "official" saga names for Dragonball, or are FUNI's the only even vaguely authorative ones?

(And, er, sorry for being off topic)

The names are Pilaf saga, Tournament saga, Red Ribbon Army saga, and Piccolo Daimao saga. I believe that's all there originally was before the dub.

Right. DBZ was Saiya-jin saga, Freeza saga, Garlic Jnr saga, Cell saga (which seems to include everything from Trunks first turning up), and Buu saga, right?

And GT would be the initial hunt for the Blackstar Dragonballs/Baby saga, Super Android 17 saga, and naughty evil dragons saga, I assume.

Yes there were only three "arcs" for GT. I personally think FUNI has added in way too many. It's made it more confusing. At least to people who are used to the old saga categories.

What arcs has FUNi added for GT? I know they've added some to the others, which I suppose makes sense from a selling POV. I don't understand why they didn't divide into main "eras" (Freeza, Buu), and then smaller "arcs" (Cell Games, Fat Buu, and so on).

I personally think that they thought maybe it would be more marketable that way. They haven't been too bad about naming the GT sagas. Just the DB and DBZ ones.

As far as I can tell, it'd be:
  1. The "Lost" (read: "shoved aside to make more money") Episodes (1-16)
  2. Baby (17-40)
  3. Super #17 (41-47)
(although 41 is kind of an "orphan" in terms of story arcs)
  4. "Shadow" Dragons (48-64)
So... I Think that's how FUNi has them set up.

I like "shoved aside to make more money" better than "Lost" personally. :D

Eh, I've always divided the series into 6 major arcs (7, if you include GT)

Beginning (1-28)
Red Ribbon (29-78)
Piccolo (79-153)
Freeza (DBZ 1-107)
Jinzoningen (108-199)
Buu (200-291)
(And GT (GT 1-64), if we count that)

Apparently not. :)

Adamant: You include the opening episodes of DBZ as "Freeza arc"? Even though he doesn't show up or is even mentioned for about 40 episodes?

What book? ._.;;

And, as Liam said, the Saiya-jin are the main villains first, then Freeza. And GT has a bit too many main villains to be considered one arc.

For the Hell of it, here are my own personal "saga" divisions (mostly done by villains):

DragonBall:
  • Pilaf
  • 21st Tenka-ichi Budokai
  • Red Ribbon Army
  • 22nd Tenka-ichi Budokai
  • 23rd Tenka-ichi Budokai
All the Baba stuff, I guess I somewhat include in either the RRA or 22nd Budokai arcs. I don't think it's huge enough to be its own arc. I'd consider it a lead-in into the 22nd Budokai.

DragonBall Z:
  • Saiya-jin
  • Freeza
  • Cell
  • Buu
Yes. Four. That's it. While the Saiya-jin stuff eventually leads in to Freeza, it can stand alone by itself. The jinzoningen are a direct lead-in to Cell, and part of the same over-all saga. To me, it begins with the arrival of Trunks. That's all one major arc, even if three years pass. The events that Trunks describe DIRECTLY name events later in what I consider the same arc.

And stuff.

DragonBall GT:
  • Bebi
  • Super 17
  • Evil Dragons
Boom, we're done.
