Where's Shenlong go when not summoned? The core of the Earth?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Where's Shenlong go when not summoned? The core of the Earth?

Post by KBABZ » Sat Sep 30, 2017 6:38 am

In the FUNimation version of the second-to-last Pilaf Arc episode, the Narrator claims that Shenron normally resides in "the fiery core of the Earth". Normally I'd attribute this to writing shenanigans, but then it also appears in the description of the first half of Madman's boxset. Is there a basis for this in the story, or is it just made up?

And on a similarly related note, if Shenron doesn't go to the core of the planet when not summoned, where does he go? Is his energy split up amongst the Dragon Balls right before they scatter?

"Uh, yeah, well, whenever you notice something like that... a wizard did it."

I always presumed he had his own little dimension that he resides in for the year(s) that he's not granting wishes.

That, or he ceases to exist without being summoned, given how there's a limit to the time he can spend in the mortal plane of existence, wishes granted or not.

I dont know about the core of the earth stuff, I think thats from the old filler were Roshi told Goku a legend out the origin of the dragon balls, how they used to be one giant ball that was split into seven etc.

If I had to guess, his essance along with all dragons is contained within the dragon balls themselves.

The Funimation Narrator mentions it in the opening of A Wish on the Dragon Balls. It's also mentioned down in the description for the AU/NZ Fatpack of Dragon Ball, or at least the first part:
Deep within the core of the Earth a fire rages. Within the heart of this fire dwells the Eternal Dragon, a magical beast of limitless power that can be summoned from his fiery lair only when the seven magic Dragon Balls, now scattered over the face of the Earth, are found and brought together.
Of course we all know Shenron doesn't have limitless power, sooo...
