WTF? Twilight Zone: The Movie reference in DBZ

Post by GI_Judd2287 » Thu Sep 07, 2006 5:03 am

I was rewatching the episode of Z where Krillin is fighting Cell on the airplane and he gets knocked through to the other side and only his head his sticking out the side. They talk for a second and some other Z warrior shows up (can't remember who). Cell then (for no apparent reason) takes his hand and covers up Krillin's head with it. He then waves is finger in a "No no no" kind of way and flies away.

This is without a doubt in my mind a reference to the Twlight Zone movie in which the same exact thing happens in the 4th segment "Nightmare at 20,000 ft." and the guy who's basicly Krillin is John Lithgow and Cell was a gremlin! This scene didn't happen in the original TV version, only in the movie. The only difference is is that in the movie the character's head is out the window instead of out the side of a plane. Has anyone else seen that part and thought the same thing?

What a weird movie to make reference to!

I have not, but I can guess that the scriptmakers probably have put some personal stuff in the series of DBZ. When you can, why not?

Yeah, that scene was definitely referencing the Twilight Zone movie. It's one of several film references within the anime.

If I remember correctly, the DBZ movie # 6 had plenty of references to many famous American Sci-Fi movies, from "Star Wars" to "Space Oddisey:2001."

Yeah, The Big Ghetti Star looks like the death star, and when Piccolo's traveling through it it looks like that scene in 2001.
