Top 10 Most Disappointing Fighters in the ToP
Here's my list of the 10 most disappointing ToP characters:
10. Tien- Tien is one of the few Z Fighters who actually spends most of his time training. However, when Toei decided to give everyone on the U7 team who isn't Goku or Vegeta asspull powerups, Tien seems to be the only one that was excluded. Despite the fact that he trains all the time, he didn't really get a powerup while people like Roshi and Android 18 (who didn't even train at all) got huge powerups. Then in the ToP, all that Tien got to do was eliminate The Preecho with Roshi's help and bring Hermila down with him.
9. Narirama- He and Nigrisshi were the only two members from U3 hyped up before the ToP, but they got some of the worst showings. Narirama got to use his "Ultimate Survival Tactic", which was just turning himself into a fidget spinner, for like 5 seconds before Hit and Basil broke his arms. He then got fodderized even more and got flicked off the ring by Hit. The only reason why he's not lower is because you could give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he's SSJ level if you wanted to since he got fodderized by someone as strong as Hit, who could probably fodderize anyone on SSJ Goku level.
8. Kahseral- Before the tournament, he was the only Pride Trooper outside of Dyspo, Toppo, and Jiren who got hyped up before the tournament, but he and 4 other Pride Troopers ended up losing to Kale and Caulifla in 1 minute.
7. Murichim- Before the ToP, he seemed like he was the strongest person from U10, and he had a brief clash with Toppo. However, he ended up getting trashed by Final Form Freeza.
6. Botamo- Before the ToP, I was hoping that he would have developed and grown stronger since the U6 arc, but he was still a bland, boring, and weak character who was some of the worst fights in Super. Against Gohan, he did the same thing that he did against Goku, which is to just let them hit him and do nothing until it's too late, and the way that he got ringed out was really lazy and boring. Turns out that all you have to do to ring him out is hit his stomach at a 45% angle. I don't know why Toei thought that watching someone willingly act like a punching bag and then get fodderized would be an interesting fight.
5. Caway- The way that she got trashed by Roshi was probably one of the biggest WTF moments for me in this arc. She is supposedly one of the 10 strongest mortals from her universe, but she is so weak that they're stopped by Roshi, whose not even in his buff form, just by pinching them. I don't get why Toei made a character so weak that Roshi can overpower her with his fingers, even though is the weakest on his team based on power levels by a mile and is only here because of his techniques. It would have made more sense if they just made her stronger so that she could actually be a legitimate threat and then have Roshi fight Dercori or Ganos later so that one of the 2 could be saved for later on in the tournament.
4. Ribrianne- Prior to the tournament she was one of the most advertised new characters, she was featured in the opening, and she was the only person from U2 to get hyped up before the tournament. In episode 102, she looked pretty promising since she was sparring with SSJ Vegeta and in the next episode she fought Android 17. However, it turns out that SSJ Vegeta and 17 were just holding back a lot of their power and Ribrianne is actually weaker than Base Goku and Base Vegeta. She then fights Android 18, get humiliated, gains a power-up and becomes Giant Ribrianne, then she gets eliminated by 18 without even accomplishing anything besides eliminating Jirasen, who was just a fodder from U10.
3. Damon- Just like Ribrianne he was hyped up a lot by Toei, but he ended up being a fodder. Throughout the entire tournament, it was foreshadowed that he and Gamisaras would strike at a pivotal moment, and Quitela wasn't even worried aobut Jiren's power. However, it turned out that his small size was all that was special about Damon, and he got trashed by Base Goku and 17. He did manage to eliminate Piccolo, but only because he caught Piccolo by surprise.
2. Nigrisshi- This guy was probably the worst example of a character getting hyped up before the tournament and then getting trashed. Despite the fact that he was hyped up as U3's strongest modified warrior, he got eliminated by 1 kick from Base Cabba. I'm confident that Toei intentionally did this since they wanted to troll the audience, or they just completely forgot about Nigrisshi's hype.
1. Shantza- Definitely the biggest fodder in the tournament. He's even weaker than fodders like Nigrisshi, Caway, and Murisam. He was one of the last 3 fighters from U4 and he survived in the tournament for 36 minutes, so I thought that he would actually be pretty strong. However, it turns out that all he can do is produce illusions that aren't even capable of hurting someone (Damon was the one doing the damage), and he got knocked off the ring by one small ki blast from Piccolo, even though he could have saved himself by using the jet propellers on his back which he used to save himself earlier against Viara.
10. Tien- Tien is one of the few Z Fighters who actually spends most of his time training. However, when Toei decided to give everyone on the U7 team who isn't Goku or Vegeta asspull powerups, Tien seems to be the only one that was excluded. I'd replace Caway with Ganos. Having the team's Ace lose to Roshi is stupid.

Great list! I agree with all that in some form or another. For me the order goes like this.Hakaishin Liquir wrote:Here's my list of the 10 most disappointing ToP characters:

1. Tien- By a loooooooong mile. Tien basically got nothing. He didn't even get half the episode to himself to do cool stuff. The current writers at Toei have no idea what to do with this character anymore and apparently neither does Toriyama. Tien never stops training and has one of the most diverse move pool, no, he has the most diverse move pool in the entire series. The cast all uses variations of his techniques: Bukujutsu, Solar Flare, Multiform, and yet now after all these years he only relies on a single technique. This is the low tier character who figured out how to harm higher tier characters with a single technique, the original Z Fighter to master the mafuba to the point it didn't kill him. He and Roshi should've been together, cheesing half the competition and yet thanks to the inconsistent writing of the character and the blatant apathy for him, he is shown to be the weakest.
2. Tien
3. Tien
4. Tien- He gets a slot for each of his clones too. That's how bad he disappointed me. Seriously, from such high beginnings in DB to this.
5. Pride Troopers- I didn't expect them all to be high tier and they all did have some cool abilities, but when 60% of the team takes a dive near the start of the tournament, I think we have a problem.
6. Krillin- Krillin had some good combat showings, but after all that serious talk to Gohan about unpredictable tournament settings, to lose the way he did was just stupid. I can understand if Frost brutalized him and knocked him out, but to lose taunting near the edge is just silly.
7. Nigrishi- A lot of hype for someone who got one-shot casually by a base Cabba who was focusing on another opponent.
8. Ribrianne- She got a lot of build up and while I liked the theme of how she lost (basically lost to a strange but true love) I still think she shouldn't have been overpowered my #18. I was mainly disappointed in her final transformation. As a magical girl I was expecting a much more flashy transformation.
9. Ganos- I expected at least a little more from this character, but he basically got overpowered by Roshi which theoretically means he's not very strong or that Roshi is just that much more powerful. Both are ridiculous.
9. I might as well put the entirety of Universe 4 here. Even the way they were erased was disappointing and Quietela was the most disappointing of all.
10. Cabba- I'm glad he got SSJ2, but he didn't get enough of his fights shown and struggling with Monna just made him seem so weak. The problem is we didn't see Monna do anything prior so we have no context for her strength. As it is, Cabba is just Vanilla Saiyan at the moment.
Big fan of the characters of Dragon Ball, all of them, especially formerly prominent sub-characters. -__-

Kafla. She should have been the final opponent being fought in Universe 6 and the very last before fighting Jiren, Toppo and Dyspo.

Disagree here. Kafla and her fusees got more than enough screentime and got to show off everything they were capable of. If they stayed in longer they'd detract from the other universes screentime.Cetra wrote:Kafla. Not more screentime. Just the screentime placed later. Kafla comes later and leaves later.The_Destroyer wrote:Disagree here. Re: Top 10 Most Disappointing Fighters in the ToP
Honestly, if they wanted to devote 4 episodes to Caulfila/Kale/Kefla then they should have had Kale and Caulifla fuse at the end of 113 instead of at the end 114. Despite the good animation, Kale and Caulifla vs Goku was a bore and they should have just gotten to the fusion faster. That way Kefla can get more screen time vs Goku.Cetra wrote:Not more screentime. Just the screentime placed later. Kafla comes later and leaves later.The_Destroyer wrote:Disagree here. Ah. I still believe Universe 6 going out early was good since we could focus on newer universes like 3.Cetra wrote:Not more screentime. Just the screentime placed later. And besides, going out earlier doesn't mean they were disappointing. Kefla did more than Universe 4, and Universe 4 lasted longer than her.

I can't choose. They're all disappointing.
Tien is #1 though. I don't understand why he was even in this arc. Yamcha could have at least delivered comedic relief.

the preecho.

he wa not hyped but he has the most badass design out of them all. and he looks strong. the fact that he was thrown out by weaklings tien and roshi is stupid
they should have done it to some universe 10 warior. they were erased early anyway

What about that one Pride Trooper that Kale eliminated in one punch, and he literally did nothing but stand there for 2 seconds and get eliminated off-screen?
He looked like a dino/lizard, obviously nobody on the staff cared about him.

I don’t know if I could do a top 10 of the most disappointing fighters, but Damon, Gamisaras, Shantsa, Nigrisshi, and Nairama, were definitely massive disappointments.

Re: Top 10 Most Disappointing Fighters in the ToP
Kahseral woudld be number one to me. What was the point of giving him so much screentime in the recruitment arc if he ended up being such a joke in the tournament. The screentime he got in the recruitment arc should have went to Kunshi instead.
Krillin was also pretty disspointing. I didn't expect much from Tien since he was treated like trash in the recruitment arc anyway, but Krillin got 3 episodes dedicated to him where he got his fighting spirit back, and all that was for him being the first U7 member to drop out and not even make it to the final 60 fighters of the tournament. Beerus didn't respect him, Shin was angry, and the androids were also angry at him. At least he saved some of his teammates and got some eliminations, but that's it. His improved solar flare also ended up being pointless.

Gowasu's number 1 fan.
Re: Top 10 Most Disappointing Fighters in the ToP
I simply think Kafla is more fitting as final boss for her universe and more appropriate as penultimate boss before Jiren. I am a major RPG freak so I want something with a proper sense of finality. This is one of the reasons why I do not like the end of Toyble's Zamasu saga. "Yeah, well. Many guys ... dead" instead of one and the same, ultimate entity achieving a state above all and reflecting this sense of despair that you get from final bosses of RPGs or from moments when Cell returns in his Super-Perfect form or when they invested everything and Vegeta was like "Wait, I still can turn into a monkey". I think the narration itself is disappointing this way. Not the presentation. Like a certain moment in Star Wars 8. A proper timing can be even more effective for a scene that may be liked by many but might be lacking something simply because of the timing alone. Like "wrong time wrong place".The_Destroyer wrote:Ah. I still believe Universe 6 going out early was good since we could focus on newer universes like 3.Cetra wrote:Not more screentime. I would not have done that in the first place. I would have made Universe 6 last the third longest. Destroy Aniraza and they Universe that they know the longest now is still in the game because of Caulifla and Kale. With them still being around this late it would fit the familiarity and add more to the "oh crap, so now its really happening. Champa and Beerus had to drag it out that long but now they can no longer avoid it" and all. And it would have been narratively perfect for Goku to re-achive Ultra Instinct just in time for Jiren after this bombastic firework of a leave through Kafla. They shot down their best fireworks too early. Besides Universe 6 being around and maybe eliminating a universe and I don't know ... Aniraza??? gives them a proper showing that they are worth something and might have some hope. The five guys scene versus Aniraza was cool but I would have been in for SSJ3 Caulifla and Kaley Legendary Super Saiyajin eliminating Hatchigarnemba even more. Would also have had a bit of the feeling of "woah fan dream characters fighting each other and actually being cool".Hakaishin Liquir wrote:Honestly, if they wanted to devote 4 episodes to Caulfila/Kale/Kefla then they should have had Kale and Caulifla fuse at the end of 113 instead of at the end 114. I would have made it this way.
Eliminate Hit -> Cabba -> The Namekians. Broly's Wife actually does crap in this tournament and keeps her universe alive. Caulifla gets Super Saiyajin 3 and the other universes notice "oh crap they might actually be worth something". Universe 3's Hatchigarnemba gets defeated by Caulifla and Broly's Wife. Caulifla and Goku have their rematch, Kafla comes, Goku gets back Migatte no Goku'i, Kafla shows that she can faze BOTH Goku and Jiren to at least keep the flame oif hope alive for a few minutes that this universe could actually do something, Sayounara Universe 6 -> Final Boss Jiren.

Re: Top 10 Most Disappointing Fighters in the ToP
It needs to be more than just ten:
-Nigrisshi was stated to be the greatest modified warrior of U3 yet he got taken out effortlessly by Cabba of all people.
-Damon could have been U4's triumph card by tricking warriors into attacking each other and remaining hidden until the end, but all he did was to take out a Piccolo who who forgot about his own super hearing for plot convenience.
-Gamisaras for the reasons above, except he was taken out by Piccolo.
-Shantsa could have used his illusion powers to mess with people's minds and gain an advantage, for example, use an Obuni illusion to make Gohan feel guilt and cripple his desire to fight, but he didn't do anything until he was taken out by Piccolo. He even had the ability to fly.
-Tenshinhan, for all the time he spends spanking training with Chaozu and now has a dojo, and with the implication that he's the strongest human, pulled the "I dropped my guard" card just like all members of his own team, and made himself look like a fucking idiot. Sadly, his recruitment episode was foreshadowing of things to come.
-Ribrianne.
-Ganos was the team leader of U4, and lost to Roshi as Mega Ultra Chicken despite wielding the advantage throughout their fight.
-Krillin slowly regained his fighting spirit over the course of Super, with a scene in which he regained his courage back in the F saga, another scene in which he reflected the power gap between him and Goku, two episodes in which he trained with Goku like in the old days, and a recruitment episode in which he demonstrated some strategy against Gohan, yet he only took out some fodder before dropping his guard and was taken out by Frost.
-Kahseral was the general of the Pride Troopers with a battle-fit mind who was given focus along with the Toppo and Dyspo before th ToP, yet he was foddered hard like the rest of his team. Even Kunshi did more.
-Katopesla was funny in his first scene when he approached Freeza, but every appearance he made after was less funny than the previous and made himelf look like a powerless fool. Ultimately, while he did have a showing with SSJ Vegeta, he still amounted to nothing other than being kicked off the arena by Damon. Lots of people like Katopesla, I do too, but I don't expect anyone to agree with my disappointment towards him.
Honorable mentions: Cabba, Frost, Narirama, all winged fighters, Botamo, Magetta and Hit to a lesser extent, Vikal, Maji Kayo, Dr. Rota, and Piccolo.

Re: Top 10 Most Disappointing Fighters in the ToP
1) Krillin. After all the build up he had, not only was the first from U7 to drop out, but lasted 2 episodes and a half.
2) Tienshinhan. He didn't do anything at all and literally NEVER fought, he just kikoho'ed some random U3 dude and chased down Hermila, only to drop his guard (something that U7 loves to do) and lose.
3) Nigrisshi. The "strongest modified warrior" of U3 was taken down by Base Cabba without being able to show his abilities.
4) Damon. Disappointing. But at least eliminated Piccolo.
5) Hit. Yep. He had a cool moment, I admit... but after that, he did nothing till Jiren knocked him out of bounds. Disappointing as hell.
6) Kahseral. Embarassing... and wasn't he supposed to be the 4th strongest fighter of U11?
These were the ones I was hyped for. I knew the others were fodders.

Hmm... I'd say
Cabba (He was an important member of U6 but he didn't have enough screen time + we only saw him fight against one fighter)
Hit (same as Cabba & the way he lost was pure carbage)
Kale (Caulifla did a much better job than her, even though she was weaker)
Ganos (seriously... what can I say? I expected a little more from him he got so much potential and had an interesting design)
Bergamo (same as Ganos)
Tien & Krillin (i dont really care about them but they could have done so much better... just like how they did with Roshi)
Pirina and the other guy (same as Ganos)
Frost (they could've done something much better with him and Freezer than just "Frost: Teach me senpai" "Freezer: haha fool never trust anyone, bye, farewell"
Damon (thought he was interesting at first but nope, not at all, what a waste)
and thats it for me

Re: Top 10 Most Disappointing Fighters in the ToP
All very good critiques about the lacklustre executions of these characters' performance and personal narratives in the tournament. Jimeze would be another face on the list of characters who failed to meet expectations. What did his involvement amount to? He has the distinction of being one the few characters from an unrelated universe, not part of Universe 6 or 7 in other words, to eliminate a contestant from one of the six other universes. As fans, we had various questions about his character. How did he come to be in Universe 2 despite his species having originated from Universe 7? Yardratians are known for having sub-par strength that's compensated by their cultivated technique array, so how did he come to be recognised as one of the strongest fighters in U2? What are the types of abilities he has?
Turns out Jimeze is just another obsequious toady for the Kamikaze Fireballs and their hollow slogan of "love". Everyone in Universe 2 seems to speak and move lock-step with the mantra of that trio. There's not much in the way of characterisation variety or depth to all of them -- you gush, you sing, you dance, and you heed the Kamikaze Fireballs' frivolous call to whirl about the area in glorification of an idea that I feel is having the opposite effect of what they're intending. Is there any uniqueness or nuance when it comes to the philosophies of characters in U2?
Don't forget the stock fight he had with Gohan and then Freeza. Our first glimpse of his activity in the tournament witnessed him getting casually kicked aside by Caulifla as he was idly teleporting around Goku for no apparent benefit. The majority of the rest of his involvement can be summed up in a similar manner to his brief standoff with Goku -- teleport about in the blind spot of your enemy before attacking them in the hopes that you'll knock them out eventually. Where's the fabled arsenal of brilliant techniques that the Yardratians are known for compensating their substandard power with? About the only things Jimeze showed were the standard Instant Transmission and ki blast. His fights with Universe 7 weren't even all that interesting. It's sad to say but I found more interest in the reactions of his teammates at the cruelty of Freeza's treatment of him than I did his fights or personality.

Re: Top 10 Most Disappointing Fighters in the ToP
10) Jameze- Hyped as the yardrat for U2, theories and ideas abounded for a pointless character.
9) Tien- So disappointing. This arc confirmed we will never see the likes of Tien vs Semi Perfect Cell ever again
Gamisaras and Damon- I put them both here as the "invisible warriors" of U4. They were literally pointless. One episode after months of hype
7) Nigrishi- that casual one shot to a character said to be the greatest enhanced warrior for his universe. Wonderful
6) Kahseral- The Pride Troopers as a whole really for foderized this tournament. Thank God for Jiren and Toppo. He had a good showing and his fight with his teammates did provide one of my favourite moments, but he was underwhelming
5) Bergamo- I get he got his time to shine during the Zen Exhibition match, but I wanted to see him do SOMETHING! Ah well. Fodder he is.
4) Narirama- Again, another hyped up mech that has led to nothing. Still, he was responsible for my fav moment where he got taken out by Basil and Hit.
3) Piccolo- I'm sorry, Big Green got shafted again. He had the one cool moment against the U6 Namekians, but then got shoved out of the ring by Damon. Just horrible
2) Kale- I need to specify, I love Kale. I love the female saiyans. I know much of the fandom doesn't feel that way, but I do. She was one of the first glimpses into this arc. The "Female Broly." Heck, I still remember the days the rumor mill had it going she was going to be a part of U11. But she got to the tournament and had one big berserk moment. That's it. We only see that form in passing till she masters it and looks nothing like what's been advertised. From that regard, she's a huge letdown.
And my personal number one is:
Hit
I love Hit. He's been one of my favourite characters throughout this entire series. The fact he only had two episodes, both of which he's getting stomped for most of it by U11, is a complete joke. I get we need to be "out with the old, in with the new," and I loved his fight with Jiren. But they could have done so much more with him as a character. To say he drew the short straw is an understatement. And the fact that Ribrianne and other fodder outlasted him in this tournament is an absolute farce. Here's hoping we'll get out Vegeta vs Hit rematch.
