Broly Jumping On Goku Censorship or Animation Problems?

Post by Rads » Tue Sep 04, 2018 6:37 am

I assume we're all familiar with this scene in Dragon Ball Z Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan. Where Broly jumps on Goku's chest multiple times. I was wondering why they didn't show Broly's foot making contact with Goku's chest and only the action of Broly jumping and Goku's screams of agonizing pain. Was there a decision at Toei that it was too violent to show Goku's chest caving in under Broly's foot? That would surprise me considering dragon ball's track record of not shying away from violence. Or was it some sort of issue with animation? I don't know Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan's budget so forgive me that's most certainly incorrect.

DBZ as far as I knew never had "shyness" issue as far as violence goes. Here's few bits

1. Super 13 punching Goku's nutsack

2. Piccolo shooting lazer thru Goku's chest

3. Dodoria slaughterin Namekians via ripping their chest

4. Super Boo imploding Smith from inside

5. M10 Broly's brutal Base Gohan beatdown, dat ironically somewhat mirrors events from M8 as you mentioned where we only get to see Broly's fist, Gohan's scream & legs quiver, Broly's grin complete with Gohan bowing down in pain while holding his stomach...

I think M8 scene was done purposefully as artistic choice, showing Broly's power & size such that it caused grounds to crumble from its impact

It wasn't too violent, the shot was just more interesting that way.
