Dragonball UK

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Dragonball UK

Post by goku 333 » Tue Oct 24, 2006 11:34 am

Here are a couple of questions for those of you who watched or know anything about Dragonball in Britain.

·Why did they use the Funimation dub for Dragonball Z and a strange English dub for Dragonball and Dragonball GT?

·What is the deal with the movies and their strange dub in UK?

·Are they ever going to release episodes or sagas on DVD?

·Why did they cancel all of it of Toonami (although it is still listed on their website)?

·And is it ever coming back to Toonami???

·Why did they use the Funimation dub for Dragonball Z and a strange English dub for Dragonball and Dragonball GT?

We actually got the Ocean dub for most of DBZ. We only got the Funi dub for the Freeza saga because Ocean didn't dub it. DB and DBGT were dubbed by Blue Water.

·What is the deal with the movies and their strange dub in UK?

We may not have the Funi dubs because of licensing issues.

·Are they ever going to release episodes or sagas on DVD?

We haven't had any UK DVDs with the exception of the 'Big Green' movies, so I don't think it's likely.

·Why did they cancel all of it of Toonami (although it is still listed on their website)?

Perhaps because it had been on for so long. Dragon Ball isn't as popular in the UK as it used to be.

·And is it ever coming back to Toonami???

With the recent amount of live action crap they've been adding to the channel, I really don't think so. I lost all faith in Toonami when CNX was canned.

Well we got both, the first time they showed the Kid Buu saga it was the funi dub and then when they repeated it, it was the ocean dub

·What is the deal with the movies and their strange dub in UK?
Translated in from the hong kong versions in a place like amsterdam or something

·Are they ever going to release episodes or sagas on DVD?
Nope dont think so, I mean we didnt get all the tenchi movies over here, (Seriously the tenchi movies were released movie 1 and movie 3, wheres movie 2?)

·Why did they cancel all of it of Toonami (although it is still listed on their website)?

Because kids love Teen Titans and live action shows now

·And is it ever coming back to Toonami???

It will come back when
Tenchi Muyo
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop
Gundam Wing
Big O

all come back from the whirlpool of nothingness.

CNX was the best channel on satellite TV. When CNX got cut so did all the good shows. People thought CNX was for children and that only children watched it, but that was the channel with the best anime and shows.

(Besides the show with them two bums in a trailer, the show after Dragonball)

Anyways people at CNX since they thought the channel was for kids changed the name moved from channel 244 to Toonami at 621 (later to 602, heh yes I know all the numbers) cut the anime and started showing crap like Pokemon.

I just hope Dragonball, and CNX come back one day :(

Ah, the good ol' days. What ever happened to that robot, with his female-sounding computer? It gave CNX/Toonami a great feel; but now they've turned it into a Boomerang (dumb kids channel) duplicate.

I miss Big O and Outlaw Star...

Damn you Americans! :x

"Does and But. Anywho, a lot of UK-Landers love Anime. All my friends in England like Db, Naruto and InuYasha.
Sorry to nit-pick but I'm sure somewhere in "The Rules" is a bit about Exclamation marks and to only use One, But I'm not sure if that applies ti Signatures.

From what I remember by being an Ocean Group DBZ fan and all, I'll try to answer your questions the best I can...

- From what I rember, after Ocean left Funi they still got the licence to releace their dubs that are provided by Funimation.... I'm not sure if they were edited to begin with or half uncut to start off with?

After Ocean aired the final DBZ episode, a group called Blue Water Studios decided to dub DBGT and DB... though this time they used a more accurate script than what Ocean did with DBZ.

- The movies that Toonami got provided with were dubbed by a company called Bridge entertainment, from what I heard they already relaced their rubbish dub movies in a different country aswell.

- Sadly their will be no DBZ Uncut DVD's releaced in the U.K, since Ocean only got the license to releace them on T.V and not sell them in shops.

Though if you were like me and recorded all 276 DBZ episodes on over 50 tapes then you have nothing to worry about because you can re-watch them again.

- If you didn't your best bet is using youtube since some Canadian members have uploaded a few ocean episodes onto it.

- Toonami took it off after re-running it one more time, because of the switch over to become a more educational channel... this was done 5 mounths before Toonami started airing comedy shows such a Life With Derek and Parker Lewis can't loose.

- Their has been no word that Toonami will ever air the DB/Z/GT episodes nor the Movies ever again :?

Blue Water isn't some rival company, they didn't just decide to dub DBGT, they were a subsidiary the Ocean Group and the actors were a lot cheaper to work with, thus they were hired. Ken Morrison liked to do things on the cheap, hence the pretty sub-standard production values of the Ocean Dragonball Z dub as well, that is until later on into the series.
