Majin Vegeta Turning to Stone
Was it ever explained why Vegeta turned to stone after blowing himself up to try and kill Buu?
I'm guessing the technical answer was that Toriyama was trying to be consistent with that Saga's level of um... "mystical-ness" (I mean, this is the same Saga that had Fusion, an evil wizard, and the Z-Sword). And my guess for the in-world explanation is that Vegeta was under Babidi's control (not really, but he still had the Majin symbol on his head) but was able to resist it, causing some kind of reaction that um... turned him to stone.

At first I was confused when I saw Vegeta turn to stone. I was under the impression that he would have blown himself to pieces or vaporized in the conflagoration that he created. Instead he turns to stone and falls to the ground shattering. I don't know if it has anything to do with his possesion by Babidi.
My theory is that Vegeta didn't "self destruct" but rather used all of his ki and I mean ALL of it. In Dragonball's reality ki is your lifeforce and you only have so much to spare for flying, firing energy blasts, and the like. In Vegeta's case he used every ounch of his ki energy to destroy Buu. Once all the ki was expended from his body he was no longer an organic thing but now a hunk of stone. I know it's somewhat of a geuss on my part but I'm going on what I know concerning "ki". Personally if I where Mr. Toryiama I would have just made Vegeta's pale corpse drop to the ground rather than confusing us with the "AHH I looked at Medusa!" trick.

That would've been an interesting version of that scene. It would've been pretty graphic, though (at least if you have Vegeta looking all dried up and nasty looking). I mean, the closest thing we get to overly graphic (in my opinion) are the the Cell Jr.s' "flying brains" courtesy of SSJ2 Gohan.Maphisto86 wrote:Personally if I where Mr. Toryiama I would have just made Vegeta's pale corpse drop to the ground rather than confusing us with the "AHH I looked at Medusa!" trick.
Though that still leaves the question of why Vegeta's clothes turned to stone along with him.

I know that. I was just wondering if people wanted to elaborate with their own ideas.Domon wrote:I don't think there's any real reason for it other than "it looked cool/dramatic". Sometimes, you have to accept that kind of thinking. After all, it is just a cartoon...

Stone? Wouldn't that be ash?
Well, I'm afraid I don't have any ideas to give out. Vegeta's attack... drained him of all his energy and bodily fuilds, turning him into stone? There's no real logic or science to it, and I'm not sure how one fan theory will make "more sense" than another. So I just don't bother thinking about it.DaemonCorps wrote:I know that. But hey, don't mind me...

It dissolved too easily to be stone. Probably was ash.Olivier Hague wrote:Stone? Wouldn't that be ash?

I agree with Tyro on this matter. When Cell slowly drained people of chi, we see them shrivel up and evaporate/ disappear. When Vegeta uses everything he has in terms of chi on Boo, he turns to stone. Both outcomes involve death due to a loss of the body's chi down to the last drop.
I'm going to put the debates to a rest- Broli is not the Legendary Super Saiyan. Goku is not the Legendary Super Saiyan. I'm the Legendary Super Saiyan. And while I'm at it, I'm Batman too.

What about Mr.Chaozu or the sabiamen; their explosions didn't have an effect like Vegeta's. Mabye Toriyama just wanted Vegeta death to be as epic as his previous one.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

... otherwise you would end up not feeling for the guy's death much or at all (like a certain bald guy's deaths).Mr.Piccolo wrote:What about Mr.Chaozu or the sabiamen; their explosions didn't have an effect like Vegeta's. Mabye Toriyama just wanted Vegeta death to be as epic as his previous one.

Well when Vegeta was about to blow himself up he seemed to know about it, perhaps he knew about this because it might have been inside every Saiyajin like a last resort, so all of the Saiyajin on the old planet Vegeta knew about it but feared to use it and left it only as a last resort.
Maybe it has something to do with the Saiyajin genetic structure, them being a warrior race so they could die instead of surrendering.

In GT, SSJ4 Goku used a similar manouever on that last dragon (whatever his name is), mentioning that Vegeta had once used it on Majin Buu. Gohan then said something about how Goku was converting all his energy into Ki, and blah blah blah.
I think the same thing happened here. Vegeta simply converted all his energy into ki and simply just let it out. When there was nothing left, he simply became a stone figure (It can be ashes, stone, whatever).
And I know the things explained in GT aren't exactly canon. I'm just trying to prove a point =P

Thats a fine thought.BrollysKin wrote:I thought it happened because he used ALL of his ki. Thus making him become no more than ash/carbon which we originated from.
