Random Back & Forths
It is becoming increasingly common for there to be what I call "back & forths" going on in threads. It's just a common trend of conversations running their on-topic-course, and the conversation degrading into somewhat random talking.
I'd like to avoid this as much as possible. Just another part of my "experiment." I don't have much of a problem with it in the "Introductions" section, since it's bound to happen, but everywhere else... I'd really like to see it stop.
Hopefully you all know what I'm even referring to, and will help me further my cause for a "different" type of internet message board ^^.

That's my point. I'd like to try and avoid it as much as humanly possible. In the end, this forum is nothing more than my personal experiment to see how I can run one with a totally different set of rules than all the other anime boards.
I'm weird like that.

You made this a sticky? Bitch!
Ok I'll stay on topic from now on.
So, um...hmmm...I suppose that ends the discussion for me since this is a thread about staying on topic.

.... So then, these two pink elephants came falling down and landed on my car. It was I sight I tell.... What? On topic? Oh...
Yeah, I'm a little guilty too, but when something comes up in the course of conversation that you want to comment on, it's no always exactly on topic. Yet another reason to make an off-topic board.

I disagree with you Xyex. EX has been asked to make an off-topic board before, a few times actually and he's made it clear that that's not what he wants this place to be. I agree with him about it. This is after all a forum about DB, so why should it have an off-topic section?

Most fourms have them since people like to talk about more than just the related topics. It's about the only way to kill off-topicness in the other areas... And then of course, there's chat. But it's almost always empty and quiet... or I can't get in, like now.
But... eh, whatever.

The vast majority of boards I've frequented have had "off-topic" forums that:
- do nothing to progress the mission of the board
- result in a "split" faction of users that ONLY post in the off-topic forum
Of course, visitors of the AMVorg forums will have seen this exact thing happen, but it's not just the one forum that's led me to this decision. So... yeah. ^^

I try to stay on-topic, but I know I do stray sometimes, when the conversation goes in that direction.
But I agree that an off-topic board would be pretty pointless. On one forum I go to, there are twice as many off-topic boards as on-topic boards, and they're considerably more active, as well as a lot more chaotic, and the mods have trouble keeping up with it. That might not happen here, because of the strictness with grammar and generally good attitudes of the people, but you never know.
Forums are meant for discussion of specific subjects, but chat rooms are meant for conversation. I've seen a good mix of on-topic and off-topic subjects talked about in my time idling in the IRC channel, so some of it might be okay in there (unless EX says otherwise). It's been pretty dead on Rizon so far, but the trick is to get a bunch of people in there at the same time, and stay there for a while! Maybe I could help by actually paying attention now and then (too many other channels now...).

Yeah...
If you guys wanna be non-sensical, come hang out in the chat (#daizenshuu on irc.rizon.net). It's always just me and Rach idling, with EvilGamerX constantly whining about how no-one's talking, and then he leaves within five minutes.
We welcome the insanity!
