Favourite Saga/s
My favourite saga/s is the Android-Cell Saga. While the pacing drags in some places now that I am older, these sagas have the best feel to me.
Reasons:
- There is a real emphasis on training/preparation; The fighters train before the androids arrive and in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. It shows how the different goals for training yielded very different results and how a year of training with no distractions is more valuable for development then 3 years of training while having a normal life. Which may explain why Vegeta yielded more results in the 3 years, because he basically trained as his normal life.
- Vegeta had a lot of story time and I love the animation and his overall character, when he just turned Super Saiyan and when he became Super Vegeta. I have always drawn a lot of inspiration and strength from how confident he became by achieving his 'fitness' goals. Even though his pride and ego resulted in Cell becoming complete, his confidence and bravery is admirable.
- The introduction of many more Super Saiyans; Trunks, Vegeta and Gohan. Their fighting styles also portrayed their character, Trunks is initially untidy and combines different forms of attack. After the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, his appearance and fighting style became more refined, focused and confident. Super Saiyan Vegeta and Gohan had a very neat/honed styles which was precise and demonstrated that these transformations were largely due to intense training.
- The scenes of Goku and Gohan training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber were deep as it displayed for the first time what kind of a dad Goku is and how he was a good dad, contrary to popular belief. The "Power comes in response to a need, not a desire" idea is also very motivating.
- The androids also provided much entertainment in a very lay-back way; they road tripped not showing much emotion, but when they were facing and end to their existence, they showed how close they were to each other and displayed a lot of 'human' qualities. Witnessing the change in dynamic was also interesting as it was later established that Android 16 was the most powerful and then 17 and 18 began to look to him for strength.
- The Z fighters joining forces with the Androids to protect the Earth, as compared to initially focusing on destroying them showing that what was most important was protecting the Earth, even if it meant protecting your enemies.
- Cell himself didn't interest me till he became complete, I like his design and his fighting style is well rounded, strong and fast in hand to hand combat and powerful with energy. He also had a good understanding of fighting styles (vs Super Trunks)
Please feel free to discuss these points with me and tell me which are your favourite sagas and why.
This is my first post, please excuse me for any shortcomings.

Re: Favourite Saga/s
My fav's still the Saiyan Arc. It's just a perfectly told story of a single battle. An implacable foe. Characters dying because they tried to be heroic. Dying pointless deaths trying to avenge a fallen comrades. Dying because they finally understand love and want the thing they love to live. And at the end of the day when the battle is over, everyone is a shell of themselves, to broken to even walk.
My opinions suck. You should probably mute me to spare yourself having to see them.
"If someone gets Star Wars wrong? Death threats. If a kid learns that a shitty song they liked when they were 12 was a cover of a song made in 1984? Death threats. If someone makes a Sonic game that's too dark and edgy? Death threats. If someone makes a Sonic game that isn't too dark and edgy? Death threats. If someone criticizes Naruto? Lots of death threats. Sexualizes pokemon? UNIVERSAL PRAISE." - Plague of Gripes

Re: Favourite Saga/s
Majin Vegeta saga or Frieza saga can't decide.
Reasons for MV
1.Vegeta has a great accumulation of his storyline that is really satisfying
2. Goku and Vegeta have a spectacular fight that is one of the best of the best in Dragon Ball
3.Tournament stuff was entertaining
4.Kais were interesting
However this answer might not count because maybe you'd say only Buu saga, Saiyan, Frieza, or Cell
In which case then Frieza saga (I think).
1. One of the best transformations. I mean it's Super Saiyan, it's iconography should speak for it's self
2.Great continuation of last saga. Such a smooth follow up to the Saiyan saga
3. Great villain. A character with so much presence, Frieza always brought a mood with him which is still palpable
4. Cool Location. Actually really liked Namek's environment
5. Lot's of interesting lore. This arc reveals new facts about the Dragon Ball mythos that are crucial to the world.
6. Vegeta has an amazing sub plot. I love Vegeta sneaking around, getting stronger, assassinating Frieza's men all in effort to collect the Dragon Balls for himself and to eventually kill Frieza. It's just so amazing
7. Great amount of villains. This arc is jam packed with antagonists and they all are great. Cui, Zarbon, Dedoria, Ginyu and by proxy Ginyu force, along with already known Vegeta as he still is antagonistic to the heroes
8.Good fights. This arc has none of the best fight's I'd say but still a lot of good ones. VegetaVZarbon, GokuVGinyu, PiccoloVFrieza2form, GokuVFrieza, Piccolo,Krillin,and GohanVFrieza, and of course GokuSSJVFrieza
9.Great sense of tension. Stakes were very high and very scary for the time
19. Amazung ending. leaves audiences asking Where is Goku? What is the SSJ? Did he die? Will we ever see him again?
Honorable mentions: Cell saga. I always flip between Frieza or Cell saga

Re: Favourite Saga/s
King Piccolo saga, followed by Red Ribbon Army saga.
In no particular order, Saiyan, Freeza, Future Trunks, Tournament of Power, Piccolo Jr., and Cell sagas are also good.

King Piccolo, Baby and Buu arcs were the best imo.
I also like Red Ribbon Army, Black Star DB and Shadow Dragons arcs a lot.

Re: Favourite Saga/s
Definitely the Future Trunks arc. In my opinion, it had:
- The best, most complex, and most successful villain in all of Dragon Ball;
- The best fight sequences;
- The best storytelling in the first half, with the mystery of Goku Black being one of the most interesting aspects of the arc (it was also very well-executed in my opinion);
- The OST was simply amazing and helped make so many scenes in this arc memorable;
- It was also the darkest arc, because it ended with the villain killing everyone in the multiverse and Trunks having to cope with failure for the rest of his life, so it's the first time the heroes don't have a happy ending. Furthermore, there were lots of dark scenes in that arc, like Black killing Goku and murdering his family using his own body, then gloating about it;
- Finally, I love the locations of this arc. I adore how one scene is located in the bleak wasteland of West City, and another instead takes place in the beautiful sacred temple of Gowasu, or in the serene cabin of Zamasu. There was a lot of variety in the locaations of this arc, it wasn't dull like, for example, in the ToP arc, where everything took place in the same place.

Akira Toriyama, DBS vol.4 joint interview with ToyotaroAt his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.
Re: Favourite Saga/s
Namek saga, followed closely by the saiyan saga which I consider to be one whole big saga, like the Hades chapter from Saint Seiya.
- I love the new characters, with Raditz the thing got heavy but Nappa is such a brute, back in the day I thought he was never gonna go down, not even by Goku's hand. He cut off Tenshinhan's fucking arm like he was a plant or something. He took most of the squad on his own. The deaths are brutal and unexpected too, even if you didn't watch DB, those deaths are shocking, just one guy decimated them, and we had Bulma crying over the TV. It gave me a feel of actual loss, and without Namek on our lives those deaths(with Piccolo's life on the line) had a weight that never had before and never would afterwards.
- Vegeta kept in the back like the little white-suited man from the Simpson's Yakuza. Shouting at Nappa like he owned his ass from his 120cm(because he was much shorter back then). And no muscle, nowadays even in the sacred fighterZ we have a muscular saiyan arc Vegeta. I understand he developed his body as the show went by, but his minuscule physique worked great. The guy looks like he couldn't lift a box of books but can destroy a planet.
- Also I loved Geets calm nature, he talked effortlessly, sort of soft-spoken, like a real prince, while later on that royalty is stripped off and he yells, cries, shows insecurities, is much more outspoken. Goku-tachi broke his perfect shield.
- Location oh man, what a beautiful day those assholes chose to land on Earth. They could've had a BBQ, hit the pool and go kill everybody later. And as the day goes by, the sky slowly becomes redder. Amazingly done, they spent the whole day fighting.
- The introduction of the new Goku, the one that can challenge everybody.
- Then we learn about Namek, a whole new world, more lore about the show, we learn Vegeta and Nappa weren't so independent after all and had a boss.
- The galactic hierarchy is just great, Freeza rules with his army made of saiyans who actually are on the low end of the spectrum, he had like colonels, generals and a special task force. All roads take you to Freeza.
-The saiyan mythology starts to lurk, Goku is becoming a bigger figure than he was in DB when saiyan arc was telling us he is no longer special as he has family and superiors who share his same traits only better. He also recovers that special guy status being the protagonist of ancient legends in Namek.
- Vegeta showing growth, no longer behaving like the queen of England and now getting his hands dirty(I know he still wore gloves)
- Krilin being useful, oh I miss that.
- Namek is awesome, the castling between the green grass and the blue sky having blue grass and green skies. And later on the planet starts to change, it loses most of its land and then the skies become dark and lava starts to flow all over.
- Freeza's incredible power showing just how far they are from him and just how fucked they are.
- And the revelation of Goku being the legend guy and avenging his friends, his namek "friends" and his lineage.
You can't go wrong with Namek.

Oh MAN!! you guys really got me excited. You folks have a way of story telling. You folks mentioned some great aspects in the sagas that I had forgotten about and I could almost feel what I felt when watching it.
Goes to show, our love of DBZ is deep. Great stuff mates, thanks, great to read
