The Dragonball Questionnaire

Post by Mr.Piccolo » Mon Nov 20, 2006 2:17 pm

As previewed in "Threads you've ALMOST created" and with Lil' Lemmy's condelenses himself, I present to you my first dragonball survey/questionnaire/and yes, dohickey. Basically how it works is this. I will ask questions and you answer them. For more directions, pm me. :) Here we go..!

Question 1 If it was revealed that Toriyama actually wrote the movies and GT, would your opinion change about them?

Question 2 If you had a say in who would defeat Majin Buu (Fat, Super, Chibi, even the Thin one), who would it be and why?

Question 3 What super saiyan form could you do without and why? (excluding the "ultra" forms, please)

Question 4 What character do you think deserves more light shed on them? (i.e. include Karin, Kami, Kibito, etc.)

Question 5 What is the undisputed best movie in your opinion and why?

I ask for no flamming in this thread. I will post my answers later, so I don't influence you guys. 8)

EDIT Also, please try your best to read this post only. I don't want answers to be rehashed from other answers. This way it will be a surprise to see who shares the same views as you. Also, could we keep the thread with the flow its going with now, its moving along pretty well. Now time for my answers.

1) No, but it would change of Toriyama. Hello, George Lucas!

2) I would've liked it to end at Super Buu and Vegito. The rest was great, but that was the best.

3) I like them all. SSJ3 wasn't as dramatic, though. I mean, it was a big event, but it wasn't like the others where it was the closer. Once Goku went SSJ1 and Gohan went SSJ2, it was over. SSJ3 was like just another powerup.

4) Piccolo.

5) I haven't seem them all since I never bothered to hunt them all down but the first Brolly movie and Janemba ones were good. Hildegarn looks like it's good too.

1. No, not really. I would just chalk up the series many inconsistencies to Toriyama's forgetfulness

2. Gohan would've beaten the tar out of Super Boo after he absorbed SSJ3 Gotenks. I would've had it play out like after Freeza reached 100% of his power, have Gohan losing for a bit and then have Gohan turn it around.

3. Super Saiyan 4. Not that I disliked the character design, it just didn't make a lot of sense.

4. Only about a million. But if I had to choose just one, it would probably be Freeza.

5. I love the fight scenes in DBZ movie 2 (before the series deteriorated into generic ki-blast battles) but over all I liked Cooler's Revenge best.

Answer 1: No. Rather, I'd be merely surprised that his method of storytelling had shifted so radically between one series and the other. But GT is what it is, no matter what you make of it.

Answer 2: Gohan should have had a shot at any Buu and killed him. His single legacy for having followed through on anything appears to be Cell, and somehow that's just wrong.

Answer 3: Crap. This is a tough one. Well . . . I don't want to say SS4, because that's so cliche. But I don't want to say SSJ3, because that's my favorite of them all. But since you can't really eliminate the other two, uhhh . . . I dunno. I guess mAcChaos' theory can apply here, even though I don't want to use it.

Answer 4: Let me get back to you.

Answer 5: Movie 10, if only because of the ending. But I like it for other reasons; it introduced a new generation of characters, it took its time getting to the fighting aspect and it had the best comedy out of the 13-- not to mention that the animation is AMAZING.

Question 1: Yes, and ya' know why? Because it would be better if Toriyama wrote it anyway. ;p

Question 2: Gohan, because that's how it was set up: Gohan gets the power-up, then knocks the shit out of Buu. Then, the fans force Toriyama by gunpoint to make Goku kill him, and he does it in the typical movie fashion: Genki Dama. My second choice would be Vegeta. No, not Vegetto, Vegeta. Because, before the final Buu fight, Vegeta was the evilest he'd ever been. He slaughtered the people at the Budokai for no reason other than to piss Goku off. I think it would've had the redeeming factor to it if Vegeta killed Buu, then went back to Hell, having done what he was meant to do.

Question 3: SSJ2, because it has the least physical changes, and doesn't give as much as a power boost as any of the other forms to the next. The only time it was really useful was the Cell Games. But after that, it's just electricity and slightly spikier hair. It would've served better as just another step up from USSJ. I don't think it really warrented it's own seperate status.

Question 4: Gregory. Imagine why. :P

Question 5: Thirteen, because it has the best, most imaginative story of all of the movies, the fight scenes are great, the animation is top-notch, and Freeza got a great cameo which showed off Gohan's awesomeness. And the Ryu-ken, while coming out of nowhere, was kinda cool, Tapion and Hildegarn had great character designs, backstories, and Tapion had some brilliant interactions with Trunks. And Gotenks is awesome.

:)

1) Much like what Chaos said, it would change my opinion on Toriyama, not the movies. XD

2) Kuririn or some other human. o: Let the underdogs finally get the spotlight again for the first time in many years.

3) Any and all of them, half the fighting cast was rendered useless the day Goku went SSJ for the first time. And having a grand total of 5 SSJs prancing about certainly didn't help the situation.

4) The humans, obviously. XD Lunch should've stuck around too. o: She's fun.

5) Erm, concidering I've only seen two movies, one of which was in Chinese and the other in Ocean Dub english, I am in no position to judge. =D

Hell no! I'd simply come to the conclusion that Mr. Toriyama is nutz. :P
Mr.Piccolo wrote:Question 2 If you had a say in who would defeat Majin Buu (Fat, Super, Chibi, even the Thin one), who would it be and why?
Gohan: (Episode 164, while fighting the androids in the future) If only father, who died of that heart disease was still alive at times like these! Knowing father, he would have fought courageously, without hesitation, at any time! I want to be strong, like father!

Trunks: Gohan...

*Gohan smiles, knowing that he's not going to make it out alive*

*Gohan fights in vain, and dies*

Gohan died in vain, and deserves his shot! He's supposed to be the one.
Mr.Piccolo wrote:Question 3 What super saiyan form could you do without and why? (excluding the "ultra" forms, please)
Seeing as though I like all of the SS forms from 1-4, I'll have to choose the Golden Oozaru, which is technically a Super-Saiyan form. I like ONLY the concept of the SS4s, but they would've been good only in DBZ- if Akira Toriyama wrote it. In my story, Goku and Vegeta aren't using their SS4 abilities to fight evil, but have achieved that level through years of training- and are just challenging themselves. :P
Mr.Piccolo wrote:Question 4 What character do you think deserves more light shed on them? (i.e. include Karin, Kami, Kibito, etc.)
The dog president: WHY DID PEOPLE ELECT A DOG!? From the list, I'd choose... Kami, to see what kind of hell he went through as a child.
Mr.Piccolo wrote:Question 5 What is the undisputed best movie in your opinion and why?
Movie 13, because it's ACTUALLY like a real movie, like you'd see in the cinemas.

Question 1 If it was revealed that Toriyama actually wrote the movies and GT, would your opinion change about them?

~No, not at all... I have my opinions about those, very well formed. My opinion of Toriyama wouldn't change either, I'd dismiss the movies and GT as "rush jobs" and classic cases of "Toriyama forgetfulness".

Question 2 If you had a say in who would defeat Majin Buu (Fat, Super, Chibi, even the Thin one), who would it be and why?

~ I really would've liked to have the fight with Chibi Buu end as a combined effort between Goku and Vegeta. I think it would've added a lot to the characters... But you still gotta love the whole "Goku, you are number one" scenario!

Question 3 What super saiyan form could you do without and why? (excluding the "ultra" forms, please)

~Maybe Super Saiyan 2... There wasn't too much of a physical change. It should've been tweaked a little more in characters like Goku and Vegeta... Gohan's was pretty dramatic in terms of change though.

Question 4 What character do you think deserves more light shed on them? (i.e. include Karin, Kami, Kibito, etc.)

~Kaioh-shin would've been nice... He's supposed to be the god of gods... and he doesn't show what he can do... and of course, I would've like to have seem more of any character other than Goku in GT... I would have liked to have seen Trunks and Goten fight and fuse. And would've loved to see Uub kick some major ass! Really now, he is a great character: a boy from a poor village and reincarnation of the ultimate evil taken under the wing of the world's most powerful warrior...

Question 5 What is the undisputed best movie in your opinion and why?

~I like Movie 5 a lot because it's fun to watch. But in terms of "Best movie, I'm torn between 8, 9, 12 and 13. The concept of the true Legendary Super Saiyan appearing was great. Bojack was great in terms of continuity, and 12 and 13 I felt had great storylines and villains.

1: I agree with the ones who say it'd change their opion on Mr. Toriyama. Not anymore than him forgetting his characters, though. And not bad opinion, just like, 'well, he obviously just forgot ___'.

2. Vegetto, who then never splits back up.

3. Anything past Super Saiyan Goku. The form doesn't mean anything when everybody and their idiotic seven-year-old can do it, or when you get Ultra/2/3/4 stuff stacked on top of it. Well, maybe, just maybe, have a Super Saiyan Vegeta so the rivalry can continue. But no damn Super Saiyan kids.

4. Karin would be awesome in a pre-Dragonball saga thing.

5. Movie 6, with the Metal Coolers on New Namek. Super Saiyan isn't overused yet, the scenes with Roshi and the others inside the spaceship were hilarious and the movie's just overall exciting.

1 ^ What Chaos and Pedro said..

2 Chou Gohan. it would have been great if the power up he worked so hard and long to obtain (well, all he did was sit - but that must of took a helluva lot of will power), to pay off, and get some more the spotlight in the series (besides with Cell) that he deserves... plus another needed instance of the torch being passed. instead - it completely goes to waste! :x

3 Anything passed SSJ 2.. while it is cool - SSJ3 was kinda pushing it for me.

4 Human fighters such as krillin, tenshinhan and kamesennin. also - a little spinnoff sort of thing on the ol' perv's past life would be nice.

5 It's been a good while since i've seen the movies for me to decide...
Just Saiyan...

Question 1: No.

Question 2: Gohan, he got built up for nothing.

Question 3: SSJ4, too much of change in appearance.

Question 4: Goten

Question 5: I like Tapion, and the background to his story. It had a lot of thought go into it.

EDIT: Sorry, I just read it back and it is brief. I will edit it later though.

1. No, but he couldn't possibly have written them anyway. Well....if he had a split personality....

2. I would have had everyone do it together since he was the final villain....which kinda did happen so um...yay?

3. Probably SSJ4, the fur creeped me out.

4. I think Kami would be a good one, but the mysteriousness kind of adds to his character. I would be kind of interested to know about Yajirobe's history, he pops out of nowhere more than any of the characters if you ask me.

5. I really like Movie 3 but it's very difficult for me to choose between any of the first three. Artistry was actually taken into account in those and Marugoto is a kickass song.

Trying not to read other people's answers.

1. Would I admit it if it did...? I say nope! GT is just too boring.

2. Gohan is nice, but I'm gonna say Vegetto. Partially because he's in one of my awesome Jump Super Stars decks (STAY DOWN WHEN I SMACK YOU WITH AN ENERGY SWORD, SLUT). Err, sorry.

The split-up was kind of convenient, and I think having his wives scream at him (while he probably laughs) would be a great way to bring an end to everything.

3. Super Saiyan 4. I'm going to go with the standard "I hate GT" approach there.

I remember Super Saiyan 3 as the godlike time-distorting power fit for the king of the universe. What could be stronger? Nothing. Aside from Goku (who has the power to go SSJ3) to fuse with Vegeta. I guess.

4. Too hard to decide... So I won't. Nobody.

5. Brolly, maybe. I haven't actually seen anything after that, like Janemba or Hildegarn or whatever.

The master of disaster, Mr.Piccolo wrote:Question 1 If it was revealed that Toriyama actually wrote the movies and GT, would your opinion change about them?
I think I would learn to accept GT and the movies if it was done by Toriyama. I mean you learned to live with the existence of Chaozu and Dodoria right?
The king of sting, Mr.Piccolo wrote: Question 2 If you had a say in who would defeat Majin Buu (Fat, Super, Chibi, even the Thin one), who would it be and why?
Its a tie between Vegeta defeating Fat Buu and the hybrids defeating Super Buu. I think Vegeta should've saved the day for once. I also believe Gotenks didn't have enough time to shine and after having his mother(s) killed, you would think he would be no fun and games but he wasn't.
The defender of Justice, Mr.Piccolo wrote:Question 3 What super saiyan form could you do without and why? (excluding the "ultra" forms, please)
Level Three. It seems so awkward. So much hair and power used. I like to believe that every other form is good. That's just me talking.
The not so Itallian Stallion, Mr.Piccolo wrote:Question 4 What character do you think deserves more light shed on them? (i.e. include Karin, Kami, Kibito, etc.)
I'd chose Kami. I want to know his damn name!
Previously on Mr.Piccolo wrote:Question 5 What is the undisputed best movie in your opinion and why?
Tie between movies 10 and 13 for obvious reasons. :)

Neato! I'll try not to read too many other answers...

1) My reaction? "Cool! But then why don't they make much sense?"

2) I kinda like the way it happened just fine. The people of Earth took Buu out indirectly, through their champion and the one that they thought was their champion. Nice, sensible, and dramatic way to take out the "final" villain.

3) Well... I'm a huge SSj4 fan, so I have to go with SSj3. 1337-tacular as it was, it didn't end up being as "useful" as it could have been. But still, the Buu saga just wouldn't be the same without it.

4) ...Ledgic. He was cool. I'd have liked to know more about him. Paikuhan, too, for the same reason.

5) I'm going with Movie 13. Not only does it have a good story, but it's one of the few that can actually fit into the anime's story. Thumbs up all around.

Question 1 If it was revealed that Toriyama actually wrote the movies and GT, would your opinion change about them?
No, the movies and GT were awesome without Toriyama making them.
Question 2 If you had a say in who would defeat Majin Buu (Fat, Super, Chibi, even the Thin one), who would it be and why?
Gotenks versus Super Buu. If Gotenks and Piccolo had burned the ashes with their ki that would've been a good ending. But the obvious choice is Gohan beating Super Buu and finishing him with the super kamehameha. That would be a great ending for me.
Question 3 What super saiyan form could you do without and why? (excluding the "ultra" forms, please)
I can do without SSJ2 because it wasn't really used that much and I think the stages should be SSJ1 as itself, SSJ2 as SSJ3, and SSJ3 as SSJ4.
Question 4 What character do you think deserves more light shed on them? (i.e. include Karin, Kami, Kibito, etc.)
Goten because I think Goten was adopted...
Question 5 What is the undisputed best movie in your opinion and why?
Movie 13 because the timeline made sense and all of my favorite characters were there and Vegeta had the best line in the JPN version: Don't get too close to me because I'm burning with rage.

edit: just kidding about the Goten comment guys... :D
