A lot of posts on the board tend to start with or at least incorporate 'to be honest' or 'honestly'.

Honestly, it's such a lonely word ...

I am starting to use it rather frequently myself, to be honest with you.
This while i don't actually tend to use it in real life.

Now i was just wondering, what does this mean deep subconsciously?

Does that actually mean we aren't quite as honest in real life, and only when using it here during those specific posts concerning DB?
Is it a form of politeness or correctness, more specifically if we don't agree or want to express our opinions without being overly attacking?
Could there be another subconscious reason or deeper psychological phenomenon evoking it?

Well... I don't know. This could actually be something somebody with an interest in psychology and/or sociolects could look into. Why do people end up speaking in a certain way around a certain group of people, and in a different way around a different group of people? How come it's possible for our usage of language to mutate into a unique way of speaking for something as small and specific as an internet forum? I don't know, this isn't my field at all, but it is a topic you could probably write a thesis about if you wanted.
It was pretty awkward to have to consciously avoid using those phrases while writing this post. I'm supremely good at saying "Well" myself.

Yes, I think this is the correct answer. It's normally used when saying something that could be seen as offensive or hurtful, so that the statement can (hopefully) have a bit less sting to it, and feel less biting and abrasive.
