Kakarrot vs Kakarrotto

Those who use the ''Vegetto'' spelling but not the ''Kakarrotto'' spelling, why exactly? Is it just out of habit or are there genuine, legitimate reasons for using ''Kakarrot'' in spite of the name ''Vegetto''?
