Supersonic Warriors 2

Post by Casual Matt » Sat Dec 02, 2006 6:00 pm

Hey, all.

I'm getting a Nintendo DS Lite for Christmas this year (super excited, by the way) and I was wondering if anybody had any comments about the DS game Dragon Ball Z Supersonic Warriors. Things you liked? Things you hated? If it's even worth getting?

How does it stack up to the GameCube and PS2 DBZ fighters?

Ehh...I personally wouldn't buy the game. It was boring to me, the CPU was bad, etc. Just get ULTIMATE STARS, that's more worthy.

Here's the honest review. Supersonic Warriors was shitty in more ways than one. The translation was off and half of the missions didn't make sense. It was fun for a bit then it got boring and they tossed nearly impossible fights at you.The original (GBA) was actually better, imo. You're better off getting the first one, JUS, or Advance Adventure. Hope that helps.

Well, that's a little disappointing. :|

I was kinda hoping to have a good Dragon Ball game for DS (not just a GBA game played on it) without importing (can't exactly afford it).

So is there anything good to be said for the game?

They added some cool levels that were not in the first one. They also put in support charecters and a few new battle charecters. The bad outweighs the good, so I really mean it when I say don't bother with this game. You'll thank us later. :?

There's lots of what ifs if you're into those, although you could probably just read the game script on gamefaqs...

SSW2 is a very good game. Despite the bit of repetitiveness and crappy original stories, it had a bunch of characters, nice tag-team stuff, and looks pretty good for an early DS game. The harder battles are more "challenging" than "impossible." Plus, it's got Broly. I'd wholly recommend picking it up.

WARNING: If you want to be able to go through the story modes yourself... DON'T BUY IT USED! The game saves your progress automatically, and there's no "Erase Data" option. So unless you want to get stuck with a game that someone else has already partially or completely played through, then try to get it new.

I beat that level 20 Goku and lost two fingers in the process. So what I should've said was "some matches were impossible to win in one piece". ;p

Broli is "neat" and all but yeah... it isn't worth buying the game for Broli. Now if they released Super Budoten 2 for DS, that would be a reason to get a game with Broli. 8) :P

Ah, Budoten games on the DS. Fanboy dreams, my friend.

Yeah, like I and others have said, don't bother with the game. It's a waste of money in my opinion. The game just didn't have...feeling to it.

What are you talking about, SSW 2's CPU wasn't bad at all... especially when it pits you against an overpowered SSJ Goku in the final battle.

And lets not forget the overpowered Cell and Brolly aswell.

My only complaint was that it had too much heavy metal music instead of the original Japanese tracks like SSW had.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend it either. Like Mr.Piccolo said, the first one is much better. Lame made up/altered attacks, everyone having the same colored auras (which was very dissapointing since in first game some characters had different colored auras), and some characters having incorrectly colored fireballs (why the fuck does Buu have yellow fireballs?) ruined it for me. The first game seemed more polished, this one just seemed sloppy.

It's fun. It's very fun. It's hardly going to change the gaming world but if you can pick it up cheap (got my copy brand new for $29AU), go for it.
... Maybe later.

For what it is, the game was a lot of fun. I really got into it once I learned the controls and the combo attacks. Reminded me vaguely of trying different combo attacks with different trios in Chrono Trigger, another game featuring characters designed by Akira Toriyama. True is the fact that the translation is far below subpar. With sentences something like these:

Ginyu: "What is his power level Jeice?"

Jeice: "It is big power 180,000"

Ginyu: "His power is 180,00?"

Yes, that is no typo on my part, he says 180,00 instead of 180,000, not to mention countless screw ups of Your and You're. That one really got old after awhile. The game is fun, you just have to take the time to learn it, then the fun factor really kicks in if you can overlook the sloppy translation.

I would recommend getting it. I like it well enough.

It actually is possible to erase all saved data though the method is a bit ridiculous. When you start the game up, go into the options menu, change something, and then when you exit and the game saves, you have to abruptly shut the system off. If you do it at the right time, it'll corrupt the data file and reset it. It's not too hard and only took me about 6 minutes or so to get it right. gamefaqs.com probably has more info on the exact right time.

The fact that you have to do that to reset the data is disgusting.

Is it true that Goku, Gohan, and Goten, and then Vegeta, Mirai, and Trunks both have "Father and two son" combos? Those sound interesting...

Yeah, they do.

Goten and Chibi Trunks aren't playable characters, but you pull off the combos by having Gotenks in the team. Also, I'm not sure if there's one with Goten or not, but I do know there's a Gohan / Goku / Bardock combo.

Here's a tip: As soon as you earn them all, start training with SSJ3 Gotenks, Piccolo, and Bardock because that is the best team that isn't very cheap. You could always add Shenron to the mix...

Or get the Japanese version and have Neko Majin as a support character! And then you'll have to take screen shots and voice samples for us of course. Or import it from the UK, I hear they have the Japanese voices there, but you'll have the dialouge in English. Unless you like the FUNi VAs that is.
