"Teleportation" or "Super Speed"?

Post by kvon » Wed Dec 06, 2006 3:29 pm

Why use "teleportation counter" in the games such as Budokai 3 and the Sparking! series? Isn't more like "super speed"? There's only a few who knows teleportation (or shunkan ido, if you will), namingly Goku, Metal Coola, Cell after self-destruction, Kibito/Kibitoshin, Super Janenba, Kid Boo and Hirudegarn. (Well, okay, Janenba and Hirudegarn has similar techniques) Since when can everybody teleport? As much as I LOVE Budokai 3 and the Sparking! games, I have a really big problem with Atari just tossing the term around where it doesn't belong. e.g. "Teleport Counter", etc.

Question: Does anyone know what the Japanese manual says for this dodging system? Do they also blatanly use the term "shunkan ido"?

Let's say I'm right about that it should be called "super speed", the games sure show otherwise! It really does seem that characters are teleporting around, indicating poorly developed system. You want to see super speed? THIS is super speed. (Look for the afterimages!)

Shin Budokai's dodging system actually looks closer to super speed because when the character dodges, the horizontal lines that he/she leaves behind short races toward the destination and actually shows the character very quickly exiting out of super speed. Check it out for yourself. Click

Budokai 3 had only horizontal lines showing where the character would go without showing him/her instantly entering/leaving super speed. And it's just worse in the Sparking! games. All Spike showed was incredibly simple vertical lines that do not hint the decided direction. I really got annoyed with this while playing Sparking! NEO because they're abusing this "teleportation" system of theirs with the cutscenes. (Yeah, that's right! ALL teleportation scenes look really bad and plain).

My point: It's super speed, not teleportion! And which game got the best depiction of super speed?! Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu! Followed by Shin Budokai. Hint hint: Dimps should make a 3D Budokai game. Their Shin Budokai already looks pretty close to 3D with the aura-rush system. :)

Share your thoughts. Should they keep using the word "teleportation"?

They shouldn't use that term for the move but I mean just calling it super speed would be kind of dumb.

In Budokai 2 couldn't Freeza and Supreme Kai sort of teleport? :?
Cuz you're an ocean, you're an ocean, settle down settle down what's the commotion?

Great Saiyaman could teleport in B1.
Jord doesn't have a avatar because the combination of Jord and a equally cool avatar would cause the universe to implode.

I'm guessing its super speed. I'm pretty sure if you blocked while moving back in Budokai 1, Freeza would move back looking like he was "teleporting". Keep in mind that movements like this were impressive in DragonBall so I'm sure everyone and their momma could do the same.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Pretty much nobody. :) All I'm doing is giving analysis of possible misuse of the word. What I'm really interested is whether or not the Japanese manual use the same phrase as "teleport counter" or something close to it. (I had also bolded the question in the post originally, showing that I only care about that part)

I'm fairly certain its just super-speed but I prefer to call it teleportation.

I was pondering this earlier but I've subscribed to the idea it was either an English translation error or term misuse. I don't care enough, really.
