Your favorite double-page spread?
Your favorite double-page spread?
Toriyama seldom drew double-page spreads (I'm certain there are likely less than 10 in Dragon Ball's original run), so coming across one always felt impactful. Toyotarou has used them more frequently and arguably to greater effect. So what's your favorite in the series? Mine probably has to be Goku's Oozaru transformation destroying Pilaf castle.
Re: Your favorite double-page spread?
I'm shockingly having trouble recalling a single one from DB--although Toriyama uses splash pages frequently. I think there's one when the gang are hiding out near Bobbidi's ship?
In Super it's probably the swarm of Zamasus descending on the city. Either that or the final Goku-Hit staredown.

Re: Your favorite double-page spread?
I mostly remember MUI Goku vs Angel 73-Moro which was absolutely epic looking but sadly also short lived

Just out of curiosity, I took a quick look at my Kanzenban volumes and noted the following instances:Cipher wrote: Thu Jan 21, 2021 11:25 am I'm shockingly having trouble recalling a single one from DB--although Toriyama uses splash pages frequently. - Kame-sennin's Kamehameha to destroy Mt. Frypan
- Goku's Oozaru transformation in Pilaf castle
- A spread of the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai's match-ups
- A cover page for the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai
- The Dragon Team's arrival to the Cell Games
- A view of Babidi's spaceship
- Majin Boo's explosive wave
Re: Your favorite double-page spread?
I had noticed Toriyama’s tendency to keep the action on one page at a time, but only seven double spreads in fourteen years?
That’s something.
I’ve been wondering if this was a safe-guard on Jump (or international publishers) switching a starting page and throwing the spreads out of whack at some point. Dr. Slump at least has quite a bit more title spreads. Perhaps Toriyama just didn’t like the spreads.
But my favorite... Probably the very first one, the first Kamehameha was truly epic. It really lands the joke on the next page when everybody realizes that this god-powered geezer just put down the fire by just nuking the entire mountain
