UB 22 re-release: Did I waste my $$$?

Post by Dayspring » Tue May 04, 2004 4:55 pm

Hey. I just bought the North American version of UB 22 for the PS1. It's used so only $19.99 Canadian. Unfortunately, while I was writing my exam at school, my brother leant the Playstation to some dork. :x

I was wondering if I wasted my money, since everybody always gave high praise to Final Bout only. Also, I don't remember ever hearing that Kid Goku, SSJ3 Goku, Kame-Senin, "Hercule Satan" and Vegetto were unlockable players. Were they hidden characters in the japanese game and the US version just killed the code-finding fun by outright giving it to us?

I thought everyone hated both PS1 fighters?

Also, "Mr Satan Satan"?

It's the reverse-censorship kicking in. Dayspring meant to write the accursed bastardization of "H e r c u l e Satan," but that wasn't what came out. :)

Waste of money? Probably. But that version is pretty rare from what I understand, so you got a collectors item.

US Final Bout is rare, but I doubt US UB22 is rare, it's been re-released last year.

And we're flooded with FR Final Bouts & FR UB22 here in the Netherlands ^_^;

Here too. I am constantly tempted to pick one up, just for the music/opening animation. I'm sure someone said that it was quite good, on one of them.

The US Final Bout, from what I've heard, is horrid. The US UB22 is actually pretty decent, despite the fact that they got rid of the "cut scenes". I would always play Goku vs Freeza so i could laugh at the horrid animation

It's funny watching the budoukai announcer announce the fighters: ALL JAPANESE DIALOGUE W/NO SUBTITLES!
And how the bloody hell do you read the attacks out of the instruction manual?! I don't get how to use apply the directional keys with it. I really want to though because without knowing how to apply the code I can't use SSJ3 Goku and Vegetto!

Thank god they never do that with the modern games. At all. Ever. Not once.

UB22 is as much as a bog standard beat-em-up you can get, but being a DBZ fan, you should get at least some enjoyment out of it.

Final Bout is just plain awful, although the opening is actually very good (music and animation-wise), not as breathtaking as Budokai 2’s opening, but it’s still sweet.

Music-wise, UB22 has the better sounding quality music (both games share some of the same themes, but there’s a difference between the them, FB music seems to be more electronic). Mirai Trunks theme’s kicks ass, and despite what I said about FB’s quality of music, SSJ4 Goku’s theme really is awesome, I can’t stress enough how much I love this theme, it’s one of my all time favourite DB related themes/music.

The Us Final Bout's dubbing is absolutely horrible. Even US DBZ at its worst was 10x better.

I bought the UK Edition not long after its release back in Autumn "Fall" of 2002, I wasn't expecting much for 1995, and I didn't get much! It was kind of like a very basic 'Mugen' (Customizable MS-DOS Fighter) with 3D backgrounds...

It Put me off getting Final Bout, but I'm not that much of a fan anymore. Saying that my brother has Budokai on GC, which is OK.

Watch your mouth.

I got a somewhat sick joy out of Ultimate Battle 22 but nothing beats Super Butoden 2 when it comes to this engine, especially on hyper mode.

Plus for some reason you can usually get Butoden 2 cheaper.
