Lol why would someone expect that? I could understand it if Geet's SS ended up being green instead of yellow.
Funny not even SSB ended up being that shade of blue in the anime.

Coincidentally, I just watched Resurrection F for the first time tonight and thought SSB came out of no where. I'd seen the rest of Super post-Frieza arc so I knew it was coming, but Goku just transforms without any build up, like he and Vegeta achieved it off screen but don't mention it at all. Is this explored more in the recap arcs in Super or is it pretty much the same reveal?
Anyway, it would have been neat giving everybody a different hair color/transformation for SSGSS. I wish I had got back into DBZ back during that era since speculating about these things is super fun.

It was not without build up. In the previous movie, Goku transformed into Super Saiyan with the power of SSG still burning in him, and it was confusing, because people thought that it was a permanent change, but Resurrection of F made things simpler by changing its color and naming it differently. In other words, SSB was not without a prototype, while Super Saiyan God did not deserve to be taken over in the same movie. In fact, it was the last resort to clear Beers's attack, so it's not without the status of the strongest by the movie's end. Super Saiyan Blue's introduction implied that it was the strongest that Goku and Vegeta had been until then. Let's chalk this off as Toriyama's confusing narrative in Battle of Gods and its correction as of its sequel. Both Freeza and Goku holding back on transformation makes it a moment of build up, since people could naturally ask where's the last movie's form, although marketing played its role in revealing them too.

Once a DB story has a new form that isn't yellow, I suppose fans expect to see more colors. I think back then a theory was that the form could have a different color depending on personality or something so it could vary for other Saiyans. I didn't think that would be the case though since the original SSJG's silhouette from the flashback ended up having the same colored aura as SSJG Goku.

I remember that, wow it’s so strange to think that’s what it was like back then. Mid 2000’s we had Evil Son Goku, evil Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 10 lol. It’s insane how much things have changed. I remember there was a copy and paste quote that said Dbz fans were a dying breed, now look, blossoming.
