DB's Availability in Your Area

Post by DaemonCorps » Thu Dec 28, 2006 3:03 pm

Aside from the manga and video games, DB merchandise is pretty hard to come by in actual stores nowadays. Back when DBZ was at its peak in the US, all stores would sell stuff like shirts, tapes, toys, etc. But now, I've gotta look for these things on eBay or amazon.

I can't even find a place around me that sells a wide variety of DB DVDs. The best I could find is a Cell Games and a Brolly disc or two. The only place that sells the latest DB stuff around me is Frys and Best Buy and even there, only a portion of shelf space is given to DB DVDs.

How easy is it to find DB toys, apparel, and other stuff in your local stores? What DB stuff would you expect would be pretty easy to find at your local store, but arrived there to find that they never sold it? For me, it would be the "new" DBZ action figures released a while back.

History repeats itself. There was once a time when there was like 10 pages on Ebay of just Dragonball stuff. It was mostly a certain VCD box set of the movies, Japanese figures and wallscrolls. Hmm, that dosen't answer your question ... well, you live in Cali. Iam sure you can find stuff where you live. :D ?

Well, lessee...

We have NO DBZ DVDs whatsoever, besides the horrible Bridge Entertainmennt ones.

A while ago we had absolutely no manga whatsoever, but now, thanks to Gollancz, titles like DB, Fushigi Yugi, Case Closed, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Rurouni Kenshin, and others are now showing up in mainstream stores near where I live.

Hell, Waterstones even has an entire manga section, most of it Gollancz stuff, with pretty much all of the original DB, with Z on the way soon.

(Although, I have all 42 volumes in their SJ printings)

As for video games... we get them. :P

Amazon UK and CDJapan 4EVAR. ;)

DBZ movies 1-9, bardock and trunks special, are avaible on DVD, not widely, but if you search carefully all websites that sell anime on dvd in scandinavia...
As for the manga, we have up to... beginning of android saga, I think?
The manga's translated -Japanese -> English, ->english->german, german->danish, danish->swedish, swedish->norwegian.

So yeah, hq translation >_<

I doubt that shirts tapes and toys are anything of value.

The local Best Buy has a good selection of releases within the past year. FYE has a number of recent and older DVD's, along with some used ones as well (which has been a blessing to me). We used to have a Suncoast which had a fricken TON of DB DVD's, but they shut down.

There's 3 bookstores within a 20 mile radius of me that have 10-30 volumes of Manga, and between the 3 I was able to complete my collection.

Varoius Merch? Nothing I can think of, I guess...

Well that depends on your definition of value. That and you've gotta consider that when DBZ was it its peak, it was during 1999/2000, so shirts, tapes and toys were the norm for stuff once they became mainstream. It's still like that with stuff today (i.e. Naruto, Bleach, InuYasha, etc...).

Also, your avatar is a bit big. 80X80 pixels is the max size.

Well, I can, but as I said, I'm limited to just the manga and some DVDs here and there. And while I've been able to get all of the volumes, that's pretty much the only thing I can complete via local retailers. Sure I can find plenty of stuff online, but in a way that's like saying that your local retailers don't have what your carrying because it isn't mainstream enough. I mean, I have three Targets where I live and they all have season sets of He-Man, but the only DB thing they've got is Movie 13. I just find it strange :(.

Goddarn impossible here >.> While a few of the mainstream places (Wal Mart, Zellers, etc) have a few of the Ultimate Uncut titles, that's mostly all. The HMV here in West Edmonton Mall has a lot of Dragon Ball DVDs, and some of the recent movies, but other than that, nah =P

Rental stores are worse off. The Blockbuster somewhere nearby only has the Majin Buu-related videotapes. A local rental place has a few of the movies, and a couple of obscure DVDs, and Rogers Video stocks nothing but GT

Manga-wise is a little better. Coles has about the first 20 volumes of Dragon Ball Z, and I'm sure Costco has a few as well. I still have not seen a single Dragon Ball volume anywhere ('cept the Public Library)

So....w00t for Canada! =P

The manga you can find at just about any bookstore near where I live. Even if I hadn't finished buying my copies back when they were first being released it would still be astoundingly easy for me to do so now.

DVD's are a different story. It used to be pretty easy back when Suncoast was around (it's been gone for almost a year now, so sad TT_TT ) and I could find all sorts of figurines 'n such there. There's only FYE at the mall now and while they have a bunch of Ultimate Uncuts, some Cell and some Buu dvds I already have (I wish someone would sell back the "Inside Buu" episodes disc to that store) it's difficult.

Luckily I've got a couple places of wonder that I'm able to get my non-book non-dvd related dbz stuff nowadays. :3

My town has a whole lotta nothin' (the only store here is Wal-Mart), but it doesn't really bother me. I always just get my DB crap off the 'Net.

Well, let's see..There's this placed called MovieStop nearby(Which is an offshoot of GameStop) that sells new and used DVDs and they have All the Ultimate Uncut DVDs, all the movies, The GT box sets, The Ginyu and Freeza DVDs, the Trunks DVDs, and thebn some random Cell and Buu ones.

Aside from that, I ahve two bookstores that carry a good amount of the manga and the local Best Buy and FYE also have a small selection of DBZ and DBGT DVDs.

There used to be a Suncoast at my mall that sold Dragonball candy including senzu beans. *sigh*
-EDIT-Actually, after reading some of the posts here, I can't really complain. I can find almost anything I need within five miles from where I live. All of the FUNi dvds can be purchased at the Best Buy or FYE. The PS2 titles are always at Game Crazy, Game Stop, EB Games, and even at a Funcoland (we still have one). As for manga, there is a comic book store that has a few of the Dragonball Z volumes.

And, of course, I have Barnes and Noble and they carry a lot of manga and you can even order the volumes they don't have in the store free of charge. :) So yeah, I guess my area is pretty well off. I forgot to mention that the mall has some Dragonball Z toys too. I also forgot to mention that I KayBee toys used to carry a lot Bandai toys too. I should've bought those and those old playmate TMNT toys. They were selling them for like 2 for 5; What a damn bargin. I still wish I bought a lot of those senzus they used to sell, I had a small brown pouch and everything at home.. :(

I've found DVDs (a decent amount of them) and manga at Suncoast in the mall, the manga (again) and some old (possibly import) tiny display figured that come inside plastic Dragonballs in the bookstore in the mall, and a bunch of figures at K-Mart here in my town.

Oh, and the majority of the PS2 games at Gamestop in the mall.

Interestingly enough, when I first read this, the tv came on with a commercial for naruto toys that I could find at some resteraunt oor something.

As Mr. Piccolo once said
mr.piccolo, i think, well if it isn't what are you gonna do about it? wrote:We learn history for a reason guys
Remember a time when Burger King was supporting Dragonball Z, and everywhere you looked you saw Dragonball commercials? I could go to my library and they had Dragonball Z translated manga.

Now look at what has happened. The most advertising I've seen is a brief description of re-realesed movies 1-3 in Sports Illustrated!!!!!

One day Naruto will be scarce and reare to find in stores and some new anime will rise and the same things will happen. History repeats and repeats until the end of time.

DBZ didn't become popular in U.K at all, no DVD's were releced and no merchain dice... except some action figures around 1993 and the DBZ games which still come out to this very day.

So I usually order my DBZ DVD's off import sites and ebay, since their non-existant in my country.

My area is brimming with DB stuff. Within a 15 mile radius I have at least 4 book stores (Books A Million, Barnes and Noble, Walden Books, and another Barnes and Noble), a couple of comic shops, and a few other various places that carry DB related stuff.

HA! I wish I was a lucky bastard :( The major stores carry more manga and anime than they do American comics
