Dragon ball super movies vs tv show
hey guys,
I have a couple questions....
I was wondering are the first 2 super movies exactly the same as the show?
I skipped the first 2 movies cuz i was told its basiclly the anime,
i did see broly and super hero tho love those :p
Anyway are they really the same tho?
If so ill skip them and buy something else like Broly lol since i got DBSuper tv series on the way already....
But if its different in any way ill prob still buy it
Also has there even been a release date yet? for super hero blu ray EU/UK release?
from manga entertainment?

The story is the same, there are some few minor changes here and there, and some stuff that was left out, also the anime expands upon certain stuff and tries to bridge them together.
To me, BoG is better than the anime arc, which is fine, so I'd definitely watch BoG.
RoF sucks in every version, so I'd stay away from the movie and the anime arc. But RoF does look much better than the ill-animated tv arc, which isn't saying much, RoF still looks like every character just swam in grease.
RoF is the only movie I always skip on rewatches(that one and Slug's), so I'd say watch BoG, burn RoF.

Nah. The broadest strokes are still identical, but the show changes a ton of little things here and there that add up. One example is how differently Beerus is introduced. In the movie, he's introduced waking up and chatting with Whis, while in the show he's introduced blowing a planet up. Another example is how in the movie, Bulma's birthday party takes place at Capsule Corp. In the show, it takes place on a boat. Notably, she lends #17 a boat (the same boat maybe?) at the very end of the show. The stealth bookend...SaiyanLives wrote: Wed Oct 12, 2022 11:36 amI was wondering are the first 2 super movies exactly the same as the show?
Re: Dragon ball super movies vs tv show
For battle of gods I recommend the movie version (extended version if you can), since the anime version just drags a lot and has a worse Goku SS God vs Beerus fight narrative wise since it removed Goku and Beerus' conversation and the different places they fought at.
For Resurrection of F, I do recommend the anime version since it includes Goku and Vegeta's training in extension and there's a bit more of tension. Maybe watch the movie for the Goku vs Frieza fight though, since the art in that part is a mess.

The movies are much better paced and animated than the TV retellings. I recommend watching the movies instead of the TV versions, skipping to Episode 28 after the movies. Episode 30 is a recap episode that will get you up to speed on the biggest differences between the movie and TV versions. If you want, you can watch Episodes 15-18 between the movies to help bridge the gap a little. They fit almost seamlessly in if I remember right, though you may notice a similar scene or two pop up in Resurrection F. I don't think it'll break the viewing experience, though, and since they're mostly original material that wasn't covered in the movies they're actually fun to watch.
Re: Dragon ball super movies vs tv show
After having finally watched both movies and their DBS retellings, I completely agree. Especially with RoF, it's a weak story in both versions. The film version is on the level of a mid to low-tier pre-BoG Z movie and the Super retelling just bloats it with stuff that doesn't add anything.Koitsukai wrote: Wed Oct 12, 2022 12:58 pm The story is the same, there are some few minor changes here and there, and some stuff that was left out, also the anime expands upon certain stuff and tries to bridge them together.

Honestly, i think the DBS movie retellings are redundant if you’ve seen the films themselves. There’s differences and added/cut stuff but honestly the plots work better as singular films rather than being stretched out as multi episode arcs. That’s why the last time i watched Super i skipped the BOG/ROF adaptations and moved to ep 28 after watching the films themselves.
You’re not missing out on much by not watching the retellings.

DB collection related goals as of now:
1.) Find decent priced copy of Dragon Box Z Vol. 4 (Done)
2.) Collect rest of manga
3.) Get rest of Daizenshuu (2-7)

Re: Dragon ball super movies vs tv show
One thing I didn't like in the non-movie versions of BoG is the ending. I preferred the version with Beerus destroying a small rock rather than falling asleep. Sure the latter is more in character for him, but the former is funnier, in my opinion.

Re: Dragon ball super movies vs tv show
They both work better as movies, but if you didn't know about the movies, the Battle of Gods arc in DBS works surprisingly well. The RoF arc in Super to the surprise of no one doesn't. It takes the problems of the film, magnifies them and adds at least one new one.
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

Re: Dragon ball super movies vs tv show
"Battle of Gods" as a movie felt more exciting for me than its anime retelling.
Same about "Resurrection 'F'", even though it's one of the worst stories in all of the franchise. And while the anime (unlike the movie) attempts to show what kind of training Goku and Vegeta did to reach Super Saiyan Blue - which I found lackluster; the movie at least does not killing Piccolo for no reason (the writers thought that we are dumb who are suckers for nostalgia).
All in all, while the anime retelling keeps Tagoma as he was intended originally, but only for 1.5 episodes into Frieza's invasion, it was undoubtedly done just so Captain Ginyu could hijack his body so he'll be killed by Vegeta so fans will go: "WOW! Geets killed all the Ginyu Force members?! No way!!" (which is needless and pathetic).
I believe that Dragon Ball Super's bridge episodes between the two movies are nice addition and that you can skip to episode 28 of "Super" right after RoF, and go all the way with the anime and the DBS movies.
