How much of the French dub aired in Canada?

Post by Dragon Ball Ireland » Sun Aug 27, 2023 12:21 pm

For those unaware, it is true that in addition to the Funimation, Westwood and Blue Water English dubs the SOFI French dub did air in Canada.

According to this blog the French dub aired on TQS between September 27, 1999, and August 24, 2001.

Did anyone in Quebec manage to see this run back in the day? If you did, how many episodes of Z were aired?

According to here TQS stopped airing Z in the Saiyan arc, just when Goku and Vegeta were about to fight, because it was deemed too violent for kids.

EDIT: Just to make sure, I looked for another source and yes, TQS only aired the Saiyan Arc and looped it until 2001:
FR:

On TQS, when I was 6, I think, but just season 1 [Saiyan arc] and Piccolo was called Satan's Little Heart, and the tune [Arianne's opening] was Dragon Ball z z z z, fight the villains. In any case, a horror.
A little too late but yeah, I've been officially active in Kanzenshuu for ten years :)

Only the Saiyan arc? That's really unfortunate, sounds like Quebec fans who watched on TQS had a similar experience to US fans who watched the first 53 episodes of the Saban dub over and over, but worse because they got less of the story if they wanted to watch in their native French.

It's unfortunate but apparently it was common on TQS.
According to someone from this
way old messageboard
, Sailor Moon was also looped like that:

I guess it will be like Sailor Moon...
9 or 11 episodes repeated infinitely
