What is the best GT video game experience?

Post by songohan619 » Wed Aug 30, 2023 8:01 am

So, sometimes I crave to experience a little bit of DBGT, and I love playing video games! So, I was wondering what is the best way to get my "GT-fix" from the video game world?

The options I can come up with on the top of my head is:

-Dragon Ball GT Transformations (which I`ve heard is a pretty poor game, heheh...)
-Dragon Ball Infinite World (Which has at least the last part of GT as a short part of the story-mode)
-Xenoverse 2? (Does any of the story-modes touch GT? I know there are GT-characters in the game)
-FighterZ (Has some GT-characters, and looks wonderful)
-Sparking Meteor (Has GT as part of the story mode)
-Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission (Which has GT-characters at least! Not sure if the story touches GT-stuff...)

What are your thoughts? What is the best DBGT video game experience? How do you get you "GT-fix"? And do you relate to the feeling of wanting to experience something from GT, but not wanting to watch the series again because it... well, it`s never as good as you want it to be?

GT Transformations is fun all things considered. It's a beat em up instead of the LoG styled adventure (which would work great for a GT game), but it was an enjoyable playthrough for me. And it has some post game modes too and unlockable new characters, plus a Boss Rush and all.

Ultimate Tenkaichi for all it's faults, has a nicely done boss battle gainst Oozaru Baby Vegeta, albeit with your CaC instead of SSJ4 Goku. And a secret one against

Dragon Ball Heroes Ultimate Mission X for 3DS would be my personal choice here, not only it goes through the entire GT story, but it also has stuff that you don't often see like Lord Luud, all Rildo forms,, all 7 Shadow Dragons and even What-Ifs. It's only in Japanese, but I'd say it's the best one.

Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout. Nah, just kidding.I was very hyped out when it came out in france called "Dragon Ball: Final Bout" during 1997, though. Super hyped when I got it in my mail box after my grandma picked it up for me and send it to Norway!

From the Ps2 generation I'd argue Budokai Tenkaichi 2/Sparking! NEO and Infinite World do the best, just keep in mind they don't tackle a great deal and the former actually gives the dark dragons arc an alternate ending due to lacking GT Kid Goku (Infinite World's is more accurate). The first Budokai Tenkaichi/Sparking! game has a couple levels adapting the Super Baby-Vegeta 2 and Super 17 fights but honestly the whole game is pretty lousy in my opinion, way too much was crammed in way too short amount of time and this sadly came through feeling like a rushed demo.

You could try Budokai 3's Dragon Universe where some GT elements are included within second "what if?" branching playthroughs for Goku, Vegeta, and ("End of Z") Uub. It's handled very differently from the actual GT anime, here the only elements included from GT are the Super Saiyan 4 transformations for the Z-era iiterations of Goku and Vegeta, the Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta Fusion for those forms of the characters, and Omega Shenron (his base "Syn" form isn't present... which actually is added into Infinite World).

Budokai Tenkaichi 1 had a couple for Baby-Vegeta and Super 17, plus a random match where Future Trunks battles Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, but that was it.

I always found that hilarious. What the hell did Future Trunks expect to do against SSJ4 Gogeta???

But yeah GT Transformation and the Tenkaichi games did GT best. Infinite World and Ultimate Tenkaichi had elements of GT, but not nearly enough in terms of story and cutscenes.

Hopefully, Sparking Zero really does GT justice.

Well, at least we have GT-characters now! I think the Baby-saga can at least be done slightly well, at least Baby vs. Goku, Uub and Pan!

GT Transformation was very mediocre game, but it's still the only game to cover first arc of GT which is just SAD. But it covered it pretty well with all the major and even minor fights being there. Simplified of course. I still find it weird they chose second form Rildo as a boss considering it was his least used form in anime. But hey, at least my boy Rildo got any recognition in this game. I say first arc, cause Baby arc was very weak in this game and just threw at the very end as a short bonus.

When it comes to other arcs then BT2+BT3 did the best job i'd say. But there's not much to pick from, let's be honest.

Also, despite not really being GT story mode, fight against Baby Oozaru in Ultimate Tenkaichi's hero mode was very cool and adapted some scenes from Goku vs Baby fight in anime.
"I will concede that your feelings are worthy of the mightiest of Saiyans. However, there is more to my power than just this. Before you die, I will show it to you. This is the difference in power, between the primitive Saiyans and the evolved Tsufruians." ~Baby Vegeta
