Are there any home video releases of the Mexican Spanish dubs?

Post by TechExpert2021 » Mon Jul 15, 2024 9:31 pm

Does anyone know any home video releases of the Mexican Spanish dubs of OG DB, DBZ, DBGT, DB Kai, and DB Super? I want them included in American home video releases of these series since the U.S. has a large Spanish-speaking population. For DB Kai, its Mexican Spanish dub should be put in a separate release for the first 98 episodes since it uses video masters of the NickToons-edited FUNimation dub of those episodes.

To me, the only home video release that has a Mexican Spanish dub is FUNimation's DBZ Ultimate Uncut DVD sets from 2005. These releases include the Mexican Spanish dub of DBZ, but the sets are incomplete and only cover the first 27 episodes of the series.

Aside from the UUE release, the original release of Cooler's Revenge included the Mexican Spanish dub but the remastered release dropped it in favor of the English dub with Japanese music option

Ironically no, because in Latin America piracy is so rampant its just a waste of time to release DVD's this is the reason that anime almost died off in Latin America, no new anime was dubbed because during the dark era of Eduardo Lucio and Kenji Ebato so many animes flopped miserably due to extremely awful dubbing, which soured tv stations on new anime and even Non-Toei anime couldnt get dubs and a DVD only dub is pretty much financial suicide. The 4kids dub of One Piece and Pretty Cure got trash tier DVD's with 2 episodes per disc, which means the release was shit tier.

The only light in this era was Z airing constantly, again, it has NEVER left Latin American airwaves... and then came Kai FUCK.

Official Latin American home media releases of Dragon Ball are not very well documented, so maybe that's why some believe they don't exist but we actually had releases.

The ones from the series I recall at the moment are the Chilean release of OG DB by EdiSur and the Mexican release of DBGT by OnScreen Films.

For the movies, here in Argentina, we've got several Z movies released on VHS and available to buy in supermarkets

So yeah, we did have some official releases.

No releases is very incorrect.

Undocumented? Well I tried... Rip imageshack.

In addition to all that there, a company called Zima Entertainment put all of the DB and DBZ movies and TV specials up to movie 13 on Blu-ray. GT Special too. I bought em all in a fat eBay lot that I think still has listings. They seem to be the most printed releases for the whole franchise in LatAm Spanish lol. I've also got Battle of Gods on a DVD by "SPB," Diamond Films, and Sun Distribution Group. And BoG in a Blu-ray+DVD combo pack by Video Max and Gussi.

I've seen mentioned somewhere that some South American countries got a version of Funi's blue bricks with the Mexican dub on it. Never could track em down for myself though.

Afaik those are the most recent releases. But the tldr is:
All of og DB. (But only 1-28 in Mexico)
Z series up to Namek. (1-74)
All of GT.
And all movies and specials.

I think Resurrection F got a release. I'm half certain Super Broly did. No clue about Kai, Super, or Superhero.

It's been a minute since I've looked.

Yeah, given that we're a lot of countries getting the same version, it is a difficult (although not impossible) task to document every individual Latin American release.

Oh yes, I now recall about hearing or (reading) some time ago that SBP released DBS Broly in Argentina too.

Except for Brazil, Kai didn't have any home media releases in Latin America. Until streaming service Max premiered it, the only official way to watch Kai was TV.

I dunno about the Super series but Super HERO only got theatrical and streaming releases so far.

Not even in streaming has been released, the only way to see the Mexican Spanish dub of Super is on television.

Here's all the releases I'm aware of, from asking Latin American fans:
  • Original Dragon Ball
    • On-Screen : Episodes 1-28, footage is a mix of Cloverway's masters and Dragon Box on episodes 7-9 (Mexico)
    • Edisur : Episodes 1-153 with Blue Brick footage, so no NEPs (Chile DVD)
  • Dragon Ball Z
    • On-Screen : Episodes 1-74 with Cloverway footage (Mexico)
    • Paramount & Funimation : Episodes 1-12 with Orange Bricks footage (DVD)
  • Dragon Ball GT
    • On-Screen : Episodes 1-64 with Cloverway footage (Mexico)
    • Videovisa : Episodes 1-9 with Cloverway footage and trimmed NEP (Mexico VHS)
  • Dragon Ball Z TV Specials
    • La República newspaper : Specials 1-2 with Cloverway footage (Perú VHS)
    • Zima Entertainment : Specials 1-2 (Mexico DVD & Blu-Ray)
  • Dragon Ball GT TV Special
    • Zima Entertainment (Mexico DVD & Blu-Ray)
    • Towers Entertainment (Mexico DVD)
  • Original Dragon Ball Movies
    • Videovisa : Movie 1 (Mexico)
    • Zima Entertainment : Movies 1-4? (Mexico DVD & Blu-Ray)
  • Dragon Ball Z Movies
    • La República newspaper : Movies 1-2 with Cloverway footage (Perú VHS)
    • Zima Entertainment : Movies 1-13? Using Funimation's 2013/14 season set footage (Mexico DVD & Blu-Ray)
    • Towers Entertainment : Movies 11-13 with 5.1 audio for movie 11 (Mexico DVD)
    • Plus Difusión : Movies 1-4 with Cloverway footage for all except movie 2, which uses the Pioneer footage (Argentina DVD)
    • Entertainment Supplies : Movies 1-13 using Funimation's 2013/14 season set footage (Argentina DVD)
    • Videomax & 20th Century Fox : Movies 14-15 (Mexico DVD & Blu-Ray)
  • Dragon Ball Super Broly
    • SBP Films (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay DVD)
I wish Crunchyroll would release the entirety of the Latin American dubs on a Blu-Ray considering they had no problem using it as an extra audio track on the Ultimate Uncut sets and Cooler's Revenge DVD.

I'm sure they would get a lot of imports considering how beloved Dragon Ball is there.

Luckily, as is the case with the Westwood dub (which sadly hasn't had a single home release to this day) I think that fans have preserved these dubs in the highest possible quality through their love and dedication.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

I'm glad to see SBP did Super Broly. I assumed VideoMax also did Resurrection F, but the big bundle of all the movies I bought didn't have it lol.

But like I said I've got an SBP DVD for BoG. It actually has some special features too, including a clip of Mario Castañeda talking a bit about the movie. I actually found it locally at a music and movie store in AZ. So close to Mexico there was always a 1% chance I'd find something but I haven't looked as hard as I could or in quite the right places. (Swap meets)

I'd wager to guess that SBP also did a Resurrection F release, but I have no idea if they did Blu-rays or only DVD. Is Super Broly on Blu-ray?

Here's the SBP DVD next to the VideoMax Blu-ray.

The Crunchyroll initial and delayed 4K releases of Superhero became infinitely frustrating after I saw that it's on their streaming service with about a dozen different dubs, including Spanish, that they didn't bother to put on any of the discs. They're really just sitting on the franchise it seems...

My main question is, do you know what's still in print and easily available? I know the En Pantalla/OnScreen releases are long gone. I never could finish collecting their run lol.
