Vegeta has an INFERIORITY complex. On the surface, it would seem that Vegeta has a SUPERIORITY complex. He believes himself to be the best, he thinks he's the ultimate, the final, the end-all be-all existence. Why wouldn't one think he had a superiority complex?
I'll tell you why. Fear. Vegeta, ever since he was a child as seen in the Bardock special, was afraid of one thing. Not being the best. He wanted Freeza to send him on difficult missions. He so desperately wanted to prove himself. People who have superiority complexes don't feel the need to prove themselves, they are arrogant enough to believe they have nothing to prove. However, Vegeta constantly wanted to take on difficult tasks. He always wanted more and more power. He wanted the Dragonballs, Earth's and Namek's, to become immortal. Below his tough exterior, he was afraid of not being the best. He wanted immortality so that he could truly be the best. Just watch his actions during his battles, listen to his dialogue. He couldn't stand the fact that he was about to be killed by Freeza on Namek. He even gave up and cried, briefly accepting his inferiority. Later, when No. 16, 17, and 18 took off looking for Goku without so much as batting an eye at him, he freaked. He just could never truly accept that he was not the strongest being, and he never was. This caused him to go willy-nilly trying to prove himself, such as when he fouight No. 18 when his arm was broken. Like I said, those with inferiority complexes constantly feel the need to prove themselves. This also drove him to go Super Saiyan 2, although he only reached the vague level of Ultra Super Saiyan. Even Trunks was aware of Vegeta's complex, he didn't want his father to know that he was second banana to the strongest good guy on the battlefield, Trunks himself. Finally, the last straw was when Vegeta allowed himself to become Majin Vegeta at the hands of Babidi. However, after he felt Fat Boo's power, there seemed to be a realization inside of him. He truly was inferior. It was when he accepted that, that he was able to truly be a good hearted man, and sacrifice his own life in an attempt to stop Boo.
Thus is the cycle of the inferiority complex of Vegeta.
Yes, I'm aware I'm reading way too much into this. Shut up.
