"Dragon Ball Daima" Animation Discussion

Post by JulieYBM » Wed Oct 16, 2024 12:36 am

We don't have a thread yet, so I'll make one. 😇

My favorite part of Episode #1's production was definitely the layouts throughout the Gomah scenes. Combined with the deft use of facial expressions and conservative animation, I felt like I really got a good sense for Gomah as a this sort of cynical guy who is just kind of winging it. I think he's a more creatively successful Pilaf in a lot of ways.

Dr. Arinsu was animated pretty restrained, but I still feel like they got her confidence and flirtatious vibe down. I really hope we get to see her in more scenes, because I'm curious how she'll be animated beyond just "sexy demon lady in a kid's show."

Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

I would like to know how many frames Daima has for episode compared to Super. Is there any way we can get that info?

My opinion so far:
- Color scheme and art direction are fantastic
- Characters designs are cool with the exception of black hairs. Goku's black hair highlights in particular are tragic.

Favourite animation parts:

Opening

Episode 1: Intro and DBZ remake scenes

Episode 2: Goku showing off his nyoibo

Episode 3: Bar fight. First one of this franchise and is soo good.
Beautiful choreography and character acting
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

Black hair highlights have been bad in nearly every animated project since Dragon Ball went digital. With the one exception of the Super: BrolI movie that's always been a struggle for modern Dragon Ball to get just right.
We need a Steve Simmons' re-translation of the manga.

I have to agree with the black hair shine, because even if it's obviously nowehere near as bad as Super, it feels distracting. It works well with Nakatsuru's artwork, but not so much in motion.

It's however the only real complain I have. The comedic timing improves so much with actual fluid animation for once, and the fights feel fast paced as they should, thanks to the movements.

Personally I like that this realm is having its own color pallet. It serves its purpose as it feels like a whole new DB universe.

One can tell that time was invested into the character design and the brackgrounds etc. It is a quality product. I am glad they improved the animation compared to DB Super. I am excited to see how the designs for new parts of the demon real will be.

The series is eye catching and eye filling.

Episode 5
What a scene! Totally stood out from the rest:

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Well it's over.

I'm disappointed Vincent Chansard didn't animate anything, but visually speaking, Daima stil lived up to the expectations in the end.
Last episodes put together are the best animated pieces of any other DB arc finale.

Youhei Sasaki and Sanda are great addtions to the team.
Ryo Onishi popping so often in the last episodes was a blessing

And Takashi Kojima just drew one of the best Gokus I saw in the last years:

The whole scene is full of life. There are so many great action scenes than this well animated calm scene stood out.
Bulma character acting is superb.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.
