The article doesn't make it clear, we will have to wait for the event to find out.

Oh hey, good for him! Creating your own original work is the most gratifying process and feeling. I hope he's given creative freedom to do something new and original and exciting for him.

If this was Dragon Ball related it would've been stated as such. With Toyotaro now working on his own project, then this unfortunately means that Super is indeed over. I've never been the biggest fan of it, but I was still hoping it would get wrapped up properly. What does this mean for the future of Dragon Ball as a whole ? I assume he didn't decide to do this unless it was made clear to him that he would no longer work on Dragon Ball.

This is great to hear! Finally he can grow as an actual storyteller and artist, unburdened by the confines of the IP. Hopefully his true fans stick by him.
As it will be unrelated to DB, future threads on his work should not be on Kanz anymore so they can find their own place and I encourage others to report threads on his work as needed.

Delighted for Toyotaro, he's got to have his fun drawing Dragon Ball for a while, but his own original work will help solidify his legacy as an artist.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

I think it's nice to get his own original series. I will probably a give a try.

If this is true, then Super is probably finished.
Re: Toyotaro is set to make an original manga.
There is no indication of how long this manga will be, so it's hardly impossible. Furthermore, mangaka have often made more than one on-going series at a time.

Re: Toyotaro is set to make an original manga.
Iyoko said back in 2022, before Superhero released, that he was already talking to Toriyama about the next movie. If Super's manga is indeed ending (which we don't know yet), it could be because they plan on wrapping up the story in a movie. A Black Freeza movie would sell a lot of tickets, especially if it's marketed as Toriyama's final project.
Re: Toyotaro is set to make an original manga.
If true, this is the 4th death of Dragon Ball Super. Maybe the end of an era. I wouldn't have a problem with that if I could see a new era coming...

Re: Toyotaro is set to make an original manga.
Nothing is legally binding Toyotaro to being the only person who can draw Dragon Ball. This whole endeavor is likely just Toyotaro doing a side gig while he waits to be given the okay to continue the Dragon Ball Super manga.Sani007 wrote: Fri Jun 06, 2025 9:56 am If true, this is the 4th death of Dragon Ball Super. Re: Toyotaro is set to make an original manga.
It wouldn't make sense to continue Dragon Ball without the guy who's worked on it directly with Toriyama for the past decade, so if he's indeed moving on (this may just be a one-shot for all we know), then it may indeed be the end of Dragon Ball. We'll get new games, merchandise, home releases, etc..., but as far as actual story content is concerned, Daima may be the last we get from this franchise.Sani007 wrote: Fri Jun 06, 2025 9:56 amIf true, this is the 4th death of Dragon Ball Super. I have very mixed feelings about this hypothetical scenario. On one hand, modern DB has been very mishandled, so putting an end to the mediocrity isn't the worst idea they could come up with. What better way to end an era than with a series like Daima that got so much right ? On the other, it will be unfortunate to see an era Toriyama spent over a decade working on go without a conclusion, so why not give it one more arc or movie to wrap things up properly ?

I’m looking forward to it. At least, it will be nice to see new content from his own perspective until Dragon Ball Super comes back. I just don’t see how this new project is affecting Super’s return, like some takes I’ve read are suggesting.

Re: Toyotaro is set to make an original manga.
Writing and drawing one manga is enough to put some mangaka in the hospital, so the chances of him doing two at the same time are basically 0. If this new project of his is going to be a long running series (it could be a limited series for all we know), then he won't be working on DB anymore.Hugo Boss wrote: Fri Jun 06, 2025 2:37 pm I’m looking forward to it. Re: Toyotaro is set to make an original manga.
With Super Hero being as close as possible to being just before the original manga’s epilogue and Daima happening, Super being over should be a foregone conclusion.
Happy for Toyotaro though

Re: Toyotaro is set to make an original manga.
I saw this posted later so it's unclear if Toyotaro is working on a new manga or working on the Super manga again. He said recently that he had future spineart done for the manga which could imply it's close to ending. Maybe one more arc before it ends and transitions to the original ending.

Re: Toyotaro is set to make an original manga.
I’m not exactly fond of cliffhangers or unresolved story beats, so I do think they should at least wrap up the Black Freeza thing before laying Super to rest once and for all.
