I was not sure how to name this topic specifically, but I was doing some thinking about the parallels between the structure of the people Goku was surrounded by during his adventures on Earth compared to the people Vegeta had with him during his conquests in space.
Goku had his two fellow martial arts peers and friends in the form of Krillin and Yamcha. By the end of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, Piccolo could be considered his main rival with Tien being a secondary rival.
Vegeta before the arrival of the Saiyans on Earth had a similar dynamic going on:
Nappa - Parallels Krillin being the bald "best friend" figure (not truly a friend, but Vegeta's most loyal companion at the time for sure).
Raditz - Parallels Yamcha being a fellow warrior peer, but not quite to the extent that Nappa is while also being the butt of the joke out of the three.
Cui - Parallels Piccolo as the primary rival to Vegeta. A ruthless alien warrior of another race (except he is purple instead of green) with growths on his head (those bizarre geysers instead of antennae) who is not afraid to fight dirty (i.e. Piccolo swallowing Kami or Cui pretending that Freeza showed up behind Vegeta).
Guldo - Parallels Tien as a secondary rival somewhat. Both are multi-eyed combatants with bizarre abilities. Tien also wanted to be an assassin while Guldo is part of the Ginyu Force, a high powered special forces mercenary squad at the service of Freeza.
The main difference between these teams is that Goku's team helped him grow as a fighter and as a person while Vegeta's team only served to further reinforce his evil behaviors as they too, were toxic for Vegeta's development. This is further reflected with how Vegeta treats them once the Earth encounter occurs: the apathy regarding Raditz's fate, killing Nappa for being injured, embarrassing and blowing up Cui to bits, decapitating and crushing Guldo. These dynamics further cement the differences between Goku and Vegeta beyond their "low class" and "elite" status or Goku just being an Earthling in spirit, it goes beyond that into the connections they formed during their development in life. This can be taken even further with Freeza being a parallel to Master Roshi. Roshi is a positive role model that cultivated Goku's potential while also teaching him to never get too ahead of himself, that someone stronger is always out there. Meanwhile, Freeza only served to showcase that might makes right and that anyone can be disposable.

Neat observation. I was about to ask "What about Chaozu?" but then I remembered that Goku has literally never had a one-on-one conversation with him anyways.
