[Done] Dragon Ball Z Recut V2 By Team Kienzan
Hello, everyone! This is gonna serve as our main Dragon Ball Z Recut thread.
Dragon Ball Z Recut is a fan edit of the Dragon Ball Z anime with the goal of aligning it more closely with the manga. We do this by removing filler scenes, shortening padding, and rearranging scenes to match their order in the manga (we also fixed some mistakes from the original show).
Great care is taken through an extensive editing process to ensure that all cuts and edits are seamless. We also aim to preserve the original score from Shunsuke Kikuchi, Japanese broadcast audio, and Japanese vocal performances (In contrast to Dragon Ball Kai).
Runtime totals:
DBZ Recut Total Length: 61:06:59
DB Kai JP Total Length: 61:13:18
DB Kai US Total Length: 63:32:20
DBZ Total Length: 107:50:11
DBZ Recut Timesave Over DB Kai JP: 6:19
DBZ Recut Timesave Over DB Kai US: 2:25:21
DBZ Recut Timesave Over DBZ: 46:43:12
NOTES
We also made 5 Best of Filler episodes, which you can find in the Extras folder. They are labeled with “.5” and should be watched right after the preceding
episode (e.g., 005.5 comes after 005). For those wanting an experience close to the manga, skip them!
Refer to this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... p=drivesdk for more in-depth information about the project (time save statistics, the manga chapters covered, the original episodes covered, and a lot of other useful info).
Q&A
What’s the point of this? Just watch Dragon Ball Kai!
Dragon Ball Kai has several issues. For more information on these problems, check out this PDF https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ohv6OD ... sp=sharing
Why is the torrent size so big compared to V1 (previously named "Jartcut")?
We used x264 instead of x265 (better compatibility, less CPU-intensive, but larger file size) and increased both video and audio quality (from Opus to FLAC).
Why didn’t you wait for the SoM Color Correction? Now you have to redo everything!
We don’t! We planned ahead for this, and saved all our edit files. We just have to replace the source and every edit will be done automatically.
Why was the Latin American Spanish Dub removed if it was already in V1?
The dub needs a new source, full resync, and rework in order to be included into the project. When those are done, it will be added in the future.
How do I report issues, give feedback, or get help?
The easiest way is by joining our Discord server: https://discord.gg/p6cnMPanen and typing in the #help-and-issue-reporting-channel (be sure to read the pinned message first). You can also leave a comment down below if Discord isn’t your thing.
Note: Before reporting an issue, make sure that it’s not from the original DBZ anime.
As of the 24th of December, 2025, the DBZ Recut V2 Christmas Patch is here! This patch addresses the most critical issues in V2. Check out the full changelog via this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zNF ... it?tab=t.0.
Join our Discord server for the Download link.
Note: This patch is intended for V2 and does not use Color Corrected footage — those updates will appear in the next main version.
PLANS FOR FUTURE RELEASES
Using the Color Corrected DBZ Footage from SoM.
Including the remastered English Dub with Kikuchi score.
Including the Latin American Spanish Dub.
More advanced graphics editing (removing Mr. Satan’s disciples).
Minor issue fixes.

Kudos for this! It's so awesome to see this stuff get finished, great fans doing wonderful stuff.
One question, which DBZ eps are the 5 filler episodes, and are your versions of them recut? And any more info there? I know the driving license episode is one I had heard was fun.
And, this is an incredible work, and this comparing thing is just curiosity, both have their great own appeal, but just curious how different this is compared to Kai and Kai Recut, as far as the editing? I know for sure the big upsides unique to this version, the most noticeable for me right away is the voice acting, say the original voice of Master Roshi, man he was fun. And of course the music.
I just started watching Kai in the past week, five eps in, so I was just comparing some say ep 2 of your release. It's great to have options, and for example the redrawn parts in Kai do look a little wonky to me, even though I love the hypeness of the editing and the flow. And I like Yamamoto's score as well so far, and I love Kikuchi of course. One tidbit I noticed is Kai omits the part at Kame House after Raditz leaves where Goku tells the gang about how you can't make the same wish twice. It's in your release which is cool, and is in the manga, I wonder why that tidbit was skipped in Kai.
Just really cool and makes me notice stuff I usually wouldn't as far as behind the scenes, by comparing these different versions of a thing. So I guess in a short question, any info or stuff you'd say about how your editing philosophy was, or how you managed to make it work? Like did you compare any sequences to Kai and stuff like that, and was it tough sometimes when you didn't have footage to work with? And the impression I get is this was more tricky of a series to do this for than the original Dragon Ball?
Anyways, big time kudos! It's wild how much work this is, and just great to see it.

The manga was the bible for this edit and the Recut was based on that rather than Kai. It cuts out more filler than Kai and never cuts out material that was in manga like Kai does, except for the rare cases where something was never adapted into Z to begin with.
It also lets the content that's there have a more natural pace than Kai did, because Kai was restricted to a very specific episode length but Recut wasn't. So compare the beach scene in episode 1 for example - Recut let's the character's nostalgic moment breath and gives it weight, whereas Kai plows through it quickly.
The filler episodes are recut to be consistent with the flow of the main episodes and to avoiding contradicting canon - eg the driving episode no longer features Haiya Dragon. The episodes are Gohan's Robot/Yamcha Baseball/Princess Snake, Goku in Space/Gang at King Kai's, Vegeta coming back from space etc, driving/training, and pre-Cell Games peacetime.

Can't wait for the CC footage to be used this in this Recut! It is going to look magnificent.

I guess this was only this section that didn't exactly get addressed. Yes, it's a lot trickier and way more time consuming to do such a project for DBZ compared to the original DB. So far if we added everyone's work hours together since last year, it'd easily go over 2000 hours, just to put things into perspective. The original DB would take significantly less, but still a lot, I assume.SavageDragon wrote: Sun Oct 05, 2025 3:42 pm And the impression I get is this was more tricky of a series to do this for than the original Dragon Ball?
