Will they label the brand-new projects as one of Toriyama's last works for commercial reasons even if that's not true?

Do you have them capable of lying about something like that for commercial reasons? Not that we'll ever be able to know the full truth anyway...

Can't say for sure, but I highly doubt anyone would believe that we'd be getting "one of Toriyama's last works" in 2050 or something, so even if they start to say this, I don't think they'd be able to keep doing it for too long

I mean, they'll label it as being based on his work if it's based on something he was planning. That's how the crediting and marketing work.

If I remember correctly, his family said in the statement about his passing that he was in the middle of working on multiple projects, so labeling the next one or two as "Written by Toriyama" wouldn't exactly be inaccurate. Rough drafts and overall story ideas that he shared with Toyotaro and Iyoko would fall under that.

Yeah marketing is full of untruths and exaggerated claims. Whatever notes Toriyama had lying around will be blown up to say it was based on a story he wrote. Eventually they will probably resort to "inspired by Toriyama" but for now we'll probably be told a few new stories are by him even if he just gave vague ideas.

Just like only two 007 movies have been released before Ian Fleming's death, I'm sure they're going to find an appropriate wording such as "based on characters originally created by Akira Toriyama", or something to that extent, according to his actual involvement (if any at all). The Japanese culture is way too respectful to mangle the crediting.
That is, if they're ever going to resume, which, while not impossible, feels more and more unlikely by the day. I'm still convinced that the resources used for Daima would have been better used for Super 2, but that's far outside of the scope of this topic.

Based Wonderful Precure poster (one of my favorite Precure series). I agree, I don't think there's much risk of this happening.NeoZ Duwang wrote: Sat Nov 29, 2025 9:59 pm Can't say for sure, but I highly doubt anyone would believe that we'd be getting "one of Toriyama's last works" in 2050 or something, so even if they start to say this, I don't think they'd be able to keep doing it for too long
Though it's interesting that he was planning a few stories before his death and so there's a few stories they could attach that line to without it being a lie. Didn't know that.

Yeah, they will 100 % label as many projects as they can as belonging to Toriyama in some way for as long as reasonably possible. "From the mind of Akira Toriyama" and so on. As long as there's a note or a draft it can even be "Written by Akira Toriyama". I don't think they'd outright lie, at least I hope not, but they will absolutely exaggerate Toriyama's involvement as much as they can get away with for the sake of marketing. (Honestly I think they already did this with Daima. I can't prove it, but towards the end it started "feeling" like it to me.)

Toei originally marketed Kamen Rider Kuuga as Shotaro Ishinomori's last work, even though he was only involved with pre-production at a time where it was nothing like what ended up on screen. I'm pretty sure we'll see them using Toriyama's name for anything he was remotely involved with, doesn't matter how small the participation was in the final product.
