Dragon Ball Super has had a confusing history in India, in a previous thread I documented everything we know about the Bang Zoom dub, which mostly aired on Toonami Asia and Toonami India, but what about regular Cartoon Network and the other languages the show was broadcast in? Here is everything we know thus far.
The English broadcast
Dragon Ball Super originally aired on Toonami India a month after the Toonami Asia airings, but at some point the show also began airing on the regular Cartoon Network. At the time it was reported that the show was not expected to return until the launch of Cartoon Network HD in India in 2018, but according to the Toon Anime India Facebook group at the time Dragon Ball Super began airing September 1, 2017, although it was not known whether the Bang Zoom dub or Funimation dub was shown. Initially it as airing every night at 10:30pm. Reportedly new episodes were premiered Friday to Sunday at 10:45pm.
By early 2018 the Bang Zoom dub was airing on Cartoon Network APAC (and Toonami India) at 11pm on weekdays, 10pm on weekends as well as 1pm and 8pm everyday. The 10pm weekend slot remained by June 2018. This run continued even after Toonami India closed.
It is not known how long the Bang Zoom dub of Dragon Ball Super was rerunning on Cartoon Network India, although around July 2022 it was still airing on Cartoon Network Pakistan so it is possible the same applied to Cartoon Network India, as it was shown on Cartoon Network HD+ and became available on the catchup service TATA-Play sometime within the next year.
The Hindi, Tamil and Telugu broadcast
Dragon Ball Super premiered in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on the channel on May 22 2022 at 9am, becoming the highest-rated premier that year.
On this day there was a marathon where Dragon Ball Super aired "back to back" that day. Indeed Cartoon Network India's Instagram suggested it aired all day.
After its premier in the regional languages these dubs of Super could be seen Mondays-Fridays at 7:30pm as well as 10:30am and 7:30pm. The Universe 6 arc premiered June 12, 2022 at 1pm every Sunday. When this arc premiered episodes were also shown Monday-Friday at 9:30pm. The following batch of new episodes was promoted to air July 10th at 1pm. A later social media promo said the Copy Vegeta was airing Monday-Friday at 9pm. Around this time new episodes were also said to be airing Sundays at 1pm after Teen Titans Go!. The Universe Survival arc made its debut September 18th at this timeslot.
The "God of Destruction" arc was marketed as airing November from Sundays at 1pm, suggesting Dragon Ball Super had come to an end at this point and was being rerun on the channel.
The Malayalam and Kannada broadcast
Around April 28, 2023 a promo for the "Superhero Summer" block surfaced, and with that the Malayalam and Kannada dubs of Dragon Ball Super were announced. Earliest I recall hearing about them airing is July 17th that year with about 6-7 episodes airing per day Monday-Friday.
As always if anyone followed Dragon Ball Super on Cartoon Network feel free to share your stories and memories here or add to the research I've done if you wish.
