About the characters training method

Post by super michael » Thu Jan 22, 2026 3:36 pm

We know if Piccolo trains with the Saiyans like Goku and Vegeta, then he can keep up with them. Piccolo proved it in the Android Saga when he was as strong as a Super Saiyan. It is too bad Piccolo never trained with Goku ever again after the Android Saga.

The humans used to make big power gains when they trained like Goku. They made a lot of gains by training with Master Roshi, travel the world, train with Karin, Mr Popo, Kami and Kaio. Kuririn never trained with Kaio, but he got his potential unlocked. However after Namek Saga they never trained hard again. They refuse to train anyone stronger and more skillful than themselves and refuse to use effective training facilities.

Gohan what can I say he has the potential to be the strongest, but his priority isn't training and fighting which is fine. Just because he has powers, doesn't mean he has to fight. He has his own life.

In DBS Manga Piccolo wonders how the gap between him and Goku got so big, for anyone that read the manga or watched the anime the answer is so obvious. Goku training evolved and his training partner evolved, that is the answer.

Once Super Saiyans were introduced there was no way for human characters to compete, which is a shame. It would be nice to see Krillin or someone else get Ultra Instinct at least since theoretically they should be able to get it because its not a Saiyan transformation. Roshi got something similar in the manga, but it wasn't the Ultra Instinct we know sadly. It was a start I suppose, although the humans would still need to find the drive to train an insane amount, like Goku did, to achieve it.

As you say Piccolo still had potential to get stronger, but to a lesser degree because he was also an alien (Namekian). It would have been nice to see Goku and Piccolo train together again after the Androids arc, especially considering how far they had come from being enemies to friends. I guess Vegeta had to have that honour, especially when Super came around because him and Goku are the duo that sells.

I think you have the right idea, but there's a motivational element that cannot be understated.

Goku is stronger because of his training partners, but he has those partners because he actively seeks them out. This includes his own enemies. None of the other characters sans Vegeta (who follows Goku) have shown any interest in doing that, or at least doing it consistently. The metaphor of the character, and the motif of Dragon Ball, is in growth and in bettering yourself every day.

Piccolo recently caught up thanks to a wish, but without Goku's mindset, he'll be left in the dust again soon enough.

Power levels were never the point, and there's a very good reason those numbers stopped being used past Z's first two story arcs.

That is why they gave Piccolo a new transformation, so he would not be so left behind. I also disliked how they turned him into stone along with Krillin int he Majin Buu Saga, he is not my favorite character, but I respect him a lot as a warrior and for the quality person he is.

Yes, he should have trained with the saiyans more. He could have trained Goten, Trunks and Gohan and even Pan during the years before end of Z, but it looks like none of them were interested. Maybe Chichi had something to do? I don't know.
