Manga vs Anime Namekian colors
Manga vs Anime Namekian colors
Which ones do you prefer?
I personally prefer the anime colors for namekians. Why? Simply because they provide more visual differentiation than in the manga.
In the manga, the spots on Namekian bodies are always light tan, regardless of age - be it children or even the Guru himself. In the anime, youthful Namekians now have pink spots, the light tan ones are reserved for middle-aged and elderly ones, while those of ancient ones are a deeper shade of brown, reminescent of fallen leaves. That gives an additional cue to the age of the Namekian, something that was entirely uniform in the manga.
And now that we have extra Piccolo forms, that'd play even more to our advantage, since keeping anime colors for base Piccolo but the original scheme for Potential Unleashed, we get even more of a visual distinction between the states. But that's just my personal view on the matter

Manga colors. Never liked how they changed Piccolo for the anime. Took them long enough to finally adopt the manga colors.

Anime. It fit that Kami was more yellow-ish to signify his age, compared to the pinkish-red of Young Piccolo.
Visually I liked it better too.

I prefer the colors in the manga, even though I grew up watching the anime first. I prefer yellow to pink for their arms.
Just sit here and waste your precious time. When you want to do something, don't do it right away. Don't do it when you can. Read my posts instead. It's the only way to live a life without regrets.

Well, to be fair they didn't go all the way. Namekians still have five fingers and Bulma still has blue hair rather than purple like in the manga. Also like I said, elderly Namekians always retained the yellow spots in the anime, I gotta say I kinda like how that's an additional visual clue to their levels of maturityLuso Saiyan wrote: Wed Jan 28, 2026 4:00 pm Manga colors. Regarding Bulma, Toriyama himself flip-flopped between blue and purple on many of his illustrations. As for the five fingers, that's a compromise for cultural reasons.Saturnine wrote: Thu Jan 29, 2026 5:45 pmWell, to be fair they didn't go all the way. But there are other color and design differences between the anime and the manga. Some of them were done when there were no color references at the time, but most of them were needless changes.
I understand, but I don't think there was ever a need of change to begin with. If they wanted to indicate maturity, I'd prefer if they'd darkened the yellow or make it closer to orange for the older Namekians.Saturnine wrote: Thu Jan 29, 2026 5:45 pmAlso like I said, elderly Namekians always retained the yellow spots in the anime, I gotta say I kinda like how that's an additional visual clue to their levels of maturity
Aesthetically speaking, I think this:

...is much more appealing than this:

Even the red sash is more balanced against the purple than the blue sash. And if you notice, the location and number of the patches is slightly different, another needless change from the manga.
Re: Manga vs Anime Namekian colors
The yellow arms are more snail-like, but I'm so used to the pink arms, since I grew up with them that I cannot prefer anything else. Also, I also grew with Kami having yellow arms, so I immediately associate that with an elder age feature.

Well, to be fair that's exactly what they did if you compare for example Moori to Saichoro. But I understand what you mean, I also thought Piccolo looked good in DBSSHLuso Saiyan wrote: Fri Jan 30, 2026 6:19 am I understand, but I don't think there was ever a need of change to begin with.
