Does Movie 11 deserve its reputation as the “worst movie?”

Post by WittyUsername » Tue Feb 17, 2026 11:49 pm

Movie 11 or Bio Broly as FUNimation called it (I’m not going to say it’s Japanese title because it’s ridiculous and hard to remember) is generally regarded as the black sheep of the Dragon Ball films, not counting DBE of course. Whether you’re a fan of Broly or one of his detractors, most everyone seems to agree that the movie is crap. It’s so unpopular that only two Dragon Ball video games have even bothered to include Bio-Broly as a playable character, and neither of them are console games. It seems the average fan would prefer to pretend the movie doesn’t exist.

Does the movie deserve to be seen that way though? For me personally, I would not consider it the worst movie in the series or even the worst Broly movie. It’s not a favorite of mine, but I do feel like I have to give it some props for not following the standard Dragon Ball movie formula. I’d argue that out of the original 13 DBZ movies, it’s probably the one that deviates from the typical movie formula the most.

I watched it for the first time a few years ago and quite enjoyed it. Ueda and Kikuchi were firing on all cylinders and I seem to remember Shida doing a cool fight for it. The Tiger Mask theme was used, too, if memory serves! I should rewatch the film, a second watch might be illuminating!

It's way too overhated imo

Like you said, not the best but also not the worst.
It had some cool Goten and Trunks moments that I really enjoyed (ppl always want those, but when we actually get them they sleep I guess) Videl got to fight, we had characters like Android 18 and Krilling showing up to fight the big bad in a movie, Krillin in Piccolo's outfit...

I appreciated it doing things differently tbh

Movie 10 was worse.

Overall, I'd say the very worst movie was Resurrection F.

I do think it's the worst out of Z's 13 movies, but if you throw Dragon Ball's 4 movies into the mix, then it just barely gets out of the last spot thanks to Curse of the Blood Rubies, as I believe that's the worst.

It's still the worst movie, but I don't hate any of the Dragon Ball movies. I appreciate that we get to see Goten and Trunks being useful without fusing, other characters like Videl and Kuririn get involved and someone other than Goku saves the day, but having the villain defeated being solidified by water was very anti-climactic and underwhelming.

What would've been even worse would be if Koyama went through with his plan to have Broly be the villain of fusion reborn; thank god we got Janemba instead. Was he planning on just using broly for the remainder of Z's movies ? Two Broly movies was too much, three was overkill; I can't imagine four or even five.

#18 has a prominent role, that alone puts it above the rest.

It's my least liked movie out of the original batch of Z movies. I don't like the villain, I don't like the ending, but it's refreshing nonetheless. It's not like any other movie.

RoF, to me, is the worst movie of the entire franchise.

Jeez. I can’t remember the last time I even went through the older movies. When I went through them, I was such a fan that quality was not a factor: It’s Goku and Vegeta doing Goku and Vegeta stuff—what more can you want?

Would be fun to go through them as a cynical 30 year old.

Because it’s a movie I don’t enjoy, I don’t care for Broly being used a third time. I don’t care for Goten and Trunks being the main characters of the movie, and I don’t care for the horror-like elements of the film. For me it’s easily the worst movie, simple as that.

Dragon Ball fans when the franchises dares to something even slightly differently instead of doing the same thing for the 30th time

It's not that the movie did something different, it's that it did it badly.

My opinion, is my opinion. Do you see me saying something akin to, “Dragon Ball fans when someone doesn’t like a piece of media”? No, my opinion is that there’s nothing to the movie that I like. I don’t care (and this applies to any franchise I partake in) about something being “different” if I found no enjoyment from it. One of my favorite One Piece movies is movie 6, which is the definition of being different compared to the franchise it comes from. Am I going to judge somebody for liking the movie? No, because that’s what being mature is. Me not liking the movie and not finding a redeemable quality to it shouldn’t be used to paint some kind of stupid and petty broad strokes fandom division crap.

You could have made the point without being an ass about it. If a joke like that is only funny to you, it's not a joke. Just apologize and try to do better next time.

Let Dbzk1999 respond for himself, you're not his mom, and you're not my mom either, nor a moderator, so I encourage you to not give me advice on how to act.

Especially because me "being an ass" is just your own interpretation of a non serious statement.
