King Vegeta maintained his Z design (they could have used his Super design, if they wanted to) and Vegeta with bangs as he should have, yay!

What's up with the purple effects on Vegeta's Super Saiyan 2? What a random addition.

Next time, to see if Tarble gets mentioned and whether or not this is truly the "definitive edition" or if the movie will continue to be the way to watch and experience this story. And then that will be it for me. Nothing interesting or worthwhile to keep an eye out, at least not until the Super Shenlong scene.

I'm just here to comment about one particular thing that actually interests me:
I compared the old lines with the new ones in Audacity to check if they recast Toro Furuya and here are the results:

Yamcha's voice sounds like Toro Furuya, but has a different delivery.
Meanwhile, Gohan and Kuririn's voice lines are completely intact.

Old version:

New version:

Either they recast Yamcha and the new voice actor does a pretty good job at replicating Toro Furuya.
Or this is an unused line from the original.

Can anyone confirm this has happened before in Super: Beerus? Same voice actor, different delivery?

I checked the credits and it's indeed Yamcha's new voice actor, Ryota Suzuki.

+flashback child Vegeta keeps his classic design with the bangs
+/-we still get Beerus asking Vegeta what Goku means to him, but we get no answer (in the unedited version Vegeta says something indecisive like "we're kind of like rivals")

-the takoyaki-cooking scene was cut

?they had Horikawa re-record the super saiyan god line

This still feels like a supplement to the unedited DBS. The pacing feels off.

Thank you, Toei.
You actually did good this time! 👍

I have nothing else to say about the episode or the show I haven't said in Episode 2.
Now I shall return to my ancient slumber.

In the previous episodes, no, but in this one, Ryo Horikawa re-recorded a line for Vegeta, changing the way he pronounced "Super Saiyan God."

Their options were to pay royalties to Furuya, pay Sazuki to re-record his lines, or cut the character's dialogue entirely, in the end, fortunately, they chose the best option.

Yamcha did get recast, pretty sure Ajay confirmed it on twitter.

As for the episode, wow what a total mess. The pacing was completely all over the place. Amateurish cuts everywhere, especially when Beerus starts fighting with the Z fighters, but even before that it was terrible. The Pilaf gang see the boat, and the next time we see them they're already talking to Trunks and Goten, then they disappear for the rest of the episode. And of course it's not explained in here EITHER why they're kids, despite that being something one would normally expect a REMAKE to adress.

The direction was all over the place too. Bulma snapping at Beerus was terribly done, and honestly it was even worse than in the original. Why was the slap replaced with an elbow hit anyways, what was the point? And as I said in the episode 2 thread, this "My BULMA" moment from Vegeta wouldn't hit for those who haven't seen the original, since Vegebul up to this point have had a grand total of 0 interactions in the remake. And the worst part is the overly dark saturation, and even THAT wasn't consistent, as some scenes look normal, while other ones look too dark. There was also one moment where Gohan didn't have his glasses on, then the next frame we see him they're back, then when we see him again they're gone once again. Gohan also looked horrible in the Oolong shot, eventhough he was "redrawn", the only thing they changed about him was make his expression more serious instead of goofy looking, but his eyes still look horrid. Great effort.

How funny is it that all of the funny Vegeta bits from both the movie and the original anime are gone, but the rock paper scissors scene between Oolong and Beerus remained? At least the Yamcha bit remained, minus him slapping Beerus on the back, so it's not as funny.

I wasn't big on the previous 2 episodes either, but at least ep 2 looked great and had decent pacing, this one was a disaster from start to finish. What was the point of remaking Super if the first 3 arcs will only be 19 episodes long? They're clearly struggling with editing this, and I genunely don't get why not just.. make more than 19 episodes? This is Dragon Ball we're talking about, they should have enough money to create a proper remaster and more. Dragon Ball deserves better than this.

Another great episodes that continues to improve on just about everything from the previous versions.

I appreciate the removal of Beerus outright slapping Bulma. Now that everyone knows where the story is going and how close he becomes with her and everyone else, I think it was a good change to done that down to a simple shove. I also thought that the way she was shaking him around was really funny and well done.

Another simple change was Buu not attacking Satan like he did in the original; that never made sense to me.

Reducing the screen time of the Pilaf gang is very much appreciated; they really hurt the pacing of the other two versions of this story.

By far the biggest improvement is removing Vegeta's over the top silly behavior, so no more bingo dance and no more jumping in the ocean to catch an octopus. Before anyone says "but it was part of Toriyama's vision", I don't care. One of my biggest complaints about the modern material was no one's willingness to tell Toriyama when something wasn't working, so I'm glad that they're taking more agency over this work. We always saw things from Toriyama's manga changed for DB and Z's anime, so there's no reason changes can't be made here if they benefit the story. We still get to see Vegeta shaking in his boots; we didn't need the silly behavior on top of it.

Vegeta's fight was obviously the main event of the episode, and there were small, but meaningful changes made here as well. There were a handful of new animated shots to help things flow better, and no one will be missing Vegeta spinning in the air for an hour. I also really like the unique aura and purple electricity Vegeta's form was given here, as It was likely done to foreshadow Ultra Ego just as Ssj3 Goku backing away from Beerus foreshadows Ultra Instinct. Another thing it accomplishes is removing the power scaling issue of a Ssj2 being stronger than a Ssj3, as this was presented as its own form, rather than Ssj2. This also helps Daima fit in the continuity, as presenting this as its own form removes the questions about Vegeta using Ssj2 when he has Ssj3. Something similar happened last week where they removed the line of Goku saying Ssj3 was his strongest form, as that solves the Ssj4 issue people have.

All in all, Super finally feels like a legitimate sequel to Z, and I can't wait for what's next.

Considering how creepy it is to have Mai, a 40 year old in a child's body be so close to Trunks, an actual child, I am beginning to think that the reason it's never mentioned that they were turned into kids is because in this version, the Pilaf gang we are seeing are being presented as the kids of the original gang.

I can agree with many of your arguments, but please don't go back to this one again:
What was the point of remaking Super if the first 3 arcs will only be 19 episodes long?
This is the whole problem, we're here setting up expectations that they never put on the table, like none, zero, nada. This is what they consider an enhanced version, never a remake was in their vocabulary during the presentation, so I think it would be great to judge this for what it actually is.

Terrible pacing, no bingo/takoyaki scene for Vegeta, the scene where Bulma gets slapped—which has the usual awful pacing of Super 2015, with the slap suddenly turning into an accidental elbow—and there you have it: the worst episode of Super Beerus produced to date.

Even if it's just an enhanced version, this episode in particular was filled with amateurish mistakes, to the point where i'd argue everything presented here was actually done better in the original.

Worst episode so far, too many cuts, and weird pacing
Z Fighters got fodderized in an even more brutal fashion this time around, that shit was instant lol

Kid Vegeta still having bangs as a child in the flashback is annoying. The Earth being depicted as our Earth with North and South America visible was also annoying

My Bulma scene way too long, despite always being a good Vegeta moment, I still prefer the Movie version (which could be said about every BoG scene tbh lol)

Removal of the takoiyaki\bingo scene is also frustrating, because that was clearly part of Toriyama's script, so I guess the being faithful to Toriyama was thrown out the window

Edit: Oh yeah, they removed the slap! Wtf lol

I thought the close up shot of Boo’s face eating the pudding, Mr. Satan being insta blown away into the wall and Beerus beating everyone up while ranting about the pudding was pretty funny, nothing really knee slap worthy but I know that’s not what this retelling is for.

Idk because I’m watching this with the mindset of “Okay show me whats different but let’s get this shit over with” what stays and and what goes means next to nothing to me, especially with some the jokes and what not. I saw Vegeta dance already, I don’t need to see Roshi and Oolong playing poker to know these characters have personalities outside of fighting on the 5th retelling of a 13 year old story.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

Meh, they took out the Vegeta takoyaki scene, lame.

The pace is weird again. When we leave Vegeta's flashback scene, he is already falling to the ground when previously he was standing.

In the original it makes sense because he runs to attack Beerus and he gets hard countered. This actually makes the original scene much more threatening than serious Beerus on this one.

When Beerus fights Buu, the spin lacks any sauce, I kinda liked how Buu turns to mush in the OG before being thrown off.

Whis is still not acting fruity, I didn't comment too much on it before because he had yet not interacted with the rest of the cast, but he def should have reacted in some way when he ate Earth's food.

The track chosen for the Vegeta fight doesn't fit, because that battle was left unchanged , and does not match the song's intensity, unlike Goku's on ep 2.

Toei could have legit left the episode unchanged outside of the design corrections and it would have worked waaaaaaaaay more.

I did like some of the new faces given to Beerus, will def use them for some memes in the future.

Anyway, this one was boring, so there's not much to say, imma go rewatch Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Freeza training to reach a power level of 1 million was also in Toriyama's Resurrection F script, but that doesn't mean we want to keep it. You can be faithful to Toriyama's script while also removing elements here and there that don't work; Vegeta's dance being one of them.

Then the "Finally, a version faithful to Toriyama's vision" marketing schtick they did doesn't work, gotta choose a road.

Second, there is nothing that doesn't work about Vegeta's dance scene

The worst episode so far.

Seems like DBS Beerus is having some junior directors. While we all have to start somewhere, I hope they are far away from Moro.
Unless they are talented, go gain experience with other show and not with the main one of a big franchise like this.

I don't think the pacing itself is bad, but some decisions were and the terrible editing doesn't help.

The worst thing is the blue filter that doesn't go away in the second part. First the green tint in Boo Kai arc and DBS Broly home release, now this? I suppose it was to make the atmosphere more intense, but there are better ways. It felt like a flashback/dream sequence.

I didn't remember how bad "My Bulma" scene was in DBS anime. Too long and over dramatic. Should have cut it. Same with Beerus reaction to pudding. Instead they should have used that time to explain why Pilaf gang are kids.

And since Dragon Ball and consitency can't be friends, we have Bulma's mother with eyes opened and kid Vegeta with his old hair, which I prefer to be honest, but consistency...

Despite all of this, I wouldn't change it for the original DBS anime version. Could have been better, but the content they had to adapt is not interesting. At least the art keeps looking better.

I like they removed the bingo/takoyaki Vegeta scene. Even after his character development in Buu arc, that always felt out of character.
It's one of those scenes that didn't get more hate back then because it came from Toriyama. Otherwise if it was from Toei...
Hopefully they remove stupid stuff from Goku like acting he saying he never kissed his wife, despite being married and have two sons.
