Why didn't android 16 come back to life?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Why didn't android 16 come back to life?

Post by Vhanos » Tue Jan 30, 2007 11:55 am

After he got killed by Cell and the eternal dragon restored everyone killed by him. I know that he is a robot but I can't get around to exactly as to why or how.

Because a broken toaster cannot be brought back to 'life'. In the end, he is an android, a complete mechanical being and Shen Long didn't see him as a living being. Plus, when he 'died' he wouldn't have gone to Enma's place therefore not counted as dead.

He's a robot. He had no soul.

Wasn't android 8 also fully robot? And wasn't he destroyed by earths destruction? I believe he came back.

And in Gt Giru was brought back, even though that's GT.

Actually, it is never mentioned that he is still dead. I could imagine 16 living in a monastery after the cell games.

That was one of those "nice to see the character again" moments.

Obviously, some quote-unquote "androids" were cyborgs while others were legitimate robots.

I think Android 16 did get revived but you don't see him anymore. He should be living in the forest or something.

16 lives in the rainforest fighting the forces of Lutin Plunder Logging Corporation...
You wonder why Captain Planet retired? Not because he thought it was hopeless... because #16 was doing such a good job in his place...

*ahem*. I wonder about #17. Was he killed when Cell was destroyed? How did that work?

Umm ok, it like this. 17 in Cell, Cell goes bom, 17 goes bom, Cell rejunarates, 17 does not rejunarate, Cell comes back, 17 does not come back. So the only way for 17 to come back was the Dragonballs.

No.16 was an android; a machine won't come back to life because it never had a life to begin with. GT made it confusing by showing No.19 but I'd rather get into asking a question of my own..

Now I don't want to get into definitions but according to the anime, we see Gero/No.20 in hell. So with No.20 technically being a cyborg was he still alive after his brain was put in to a mechanical body? If that's the case, that means he can be revived solely because his brain is still "alive".. Again, I'm going to point out that seeing Gero was only in the Z anime (I believe Buu Arc only) and GT.

And again, what about No. 8, then?

I give this one up to a plothole. Eight's appearance had been his first in...well, since before Piccolo Daimao had even been thought up, so I doubt Toriyama-sensei reviewed the entire series to see who should be alive and not.

That's just me though. I have an easier time accepting "outside universe" explanations than others.

No.8? That can be dismissed as DragonBall when reviving people was seen as it is in the real world. But seriously, I don't know. Goku unleashed a massive attack after No.8. Gohan went SSj2. I'm assuming No.16's death was a bit more dramatic :P, so reviving No.16 wouldn take some of that emotion away. Besides, No.16 still made it known that he was programmed to kill Goku. No.8 dropped that when he became Goku's friend. So in the end No.16 being around would be a bit awkward.."Hey your dad is dead and there's a constant reminder..
