Well, folks, here we go. PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY!
This is the official “re-audition” thread for the part of Goku in the dub. It'll happen much like the auditions for the other characters earlier, except with more lines and for a specific character. Like before, I'll be providing several Goku lines from the script so far, but in addition, I'll provide some guidelines, both for the character in general, and how each of the audition lines should sound and emote.
Like with the first round, there'll be set dates. When and where I'm posting this, it's two o' clock, January 21st, a Wednesday. The auditions will be open as soon as I post it. There'll be exactly two weeks for you folks to get stuff recorded and get it linked to on this thread. So it will end at about two o'clock on February 14 ( just in time for Valentine's day, eh?). So take your time
The same rules apply as for the previous auditions. If for some good reason you can't get your audition in on time, e-mail me about it, and I'll probably let you submit it anyway. As long as it's a good reason.
Once all the auditions are in and done, Rick, Kino and I will conference on them much like before, and hopefully we'll get a Goku picked out before too long (I hope so... we need to get recording!). In the interest of fairness, none of the three of us will be auditioning. (Jack, this means we should be okay without you for this round, since we won't need a third opinion for anything. Thanks again for all the help with the first round, dude)
One thing I want to make clear. This thread is only for posting your auditions! All that should be in your posts is...
1)A link to your audition.
2)Any special notes or things you'd like to point out about your audition.
If you need to update or repost your audition for one reason or another, then please do so by simply editing your previous post. If you're not sure whether or not the change or update will be noticed, then let me know in the main project thread, and I'll make sure to go back to your audition post and see what's up. Anything else, like questions, comments, suggestions, pointing out any mistakes I made, etc... anything else, bring it to the main project discussion thread. Not here. This will reduce the amount of pages and general clutter, and make it easier on Rick, Kino and I to go through and gather everything once auditions are done. PLEASE make sure your do this.
Well, with that said, here's the dialogue and guidelines for Goku. Make sure to READ CAREFULLY!
______________________________
- Overall, Goku should sound... I guess, youthful but mature. There's a reason his voice is done by a lady (The ever-talented Nozawa-san) in Japan; he's supposed to have a slightly child-like voice, as an indication of the purity, innocence, and benevolence of his character. However, in the same vein, he should still sound like an adult. Whether he's talking seriously during a battle, or goofing around with Gohan or Kuririn, he should still retain that slight child-like tone to his voice.
This is an important aspect to his voice, and will be one of, if not the, biggest aspects of the judging. How you convey it is up to you; you could do a slightly higher pitch, you could add a slight rasp, or you could get your little sister to do it. It's up to you. Just keep in mind that this will probably be the most important part of his voice you'll be judged upon, so be sure to incorporate this aspect of his character into your rendition of him.
As for his dialogue and speech patterns, he talks like a bit of a hick, with a lot of contractions (”ain't,” “ya,” “gonna,” stuff like that) and such. I've typed up his dialogue in my version of the script this way, so it's pretty much already laid out for you.
I think that's just about everything that needs saying, so here's the lines!

GOKU: Aw, c'mon, Chi-Chi. Go easy...
- In this line, he's trying to calm Chi-Chi's anger at Gohan. He should sound calm and apologetic, and perhaps a little bit scared of her...
GOKU: (Chuckling as Higher Dragon licks him) Hee, hee! Just don't tell your mom!
- A happy moment. Gohan is thankful for the home for Higher Dragon, who is ticklishly licking Goku in the face. Happy and high pitched voice, while laughing and perhaps struggling a bit to get the words out between licks from H.D.
GOKU (OS): Y-you mean Earth is...?
- Here, Goku's worried. Kaio-sama's just described the Shinseiju and what it's doing to Earth, and Goku is truly concerned about it.
GOKU: I think if we combine all our power... We can blow the whole thing away!
- In this line, Goku's determined. Just about everyone else in the scene is gloomy and doomy about the tree, but not Goku. He's being optomistic and resolute. Bring it on, stupid tree!
GOKU: The ones who planted this tree... were you guys?
- After just meeting Tullece lackeys, Goku is angry. These guys just practically ruined his home planet, and he's pissed. However, he's still staying calm, while more demanding an answer from them rather than asking anything.
GOKU: I've crossed that gap and I'll do it again!
- This is just a cool line, especially when in context with Tullece's before it. This is more an angry determined than the optomistic determined before. This jerk (Tullece) is the cause of everything here, and Goku's going to take him down no matter what it takes!
GOKU (OS): I'm actually glad I hit my head as a baby! It kept me from becoming scum like you!
- Another angry line directed at Tullece. This time, however, it's more an open defiance of Tullece's sense of superiority. Tullece is being a smug jerk, and Goku's responding by openly dissing him.
GOKU: Kaio-Ken... TIMES TEN!
- This speaks for itself. Let's hear your best Kaio-Ken scream!
GOKU: Heh. I still have the scar from that, ya know!
- And finally, another happy line. The vilain has been defeated, and it's the obligatory joyous epilogue with everyone off actually enjoying doing what they were trying to do when the movie started.

There you have it! I know it's a lot of lines, but it's practice in conveying a wide range of emotions and deliveries well, which the VA for the lead is really gonna have to be able to do.
You guys have two whole weeks, so take your time if you need to. Heck, I'd encourage you to.
Alrighty then, have at it!
