Scouter Color and Rank

This is reposted from the thread over in Dragon Ball Questions, regarding whether or not the color of a person's scouter lens indicates their rank, and since that thread is so old I figured here would be a much better place to post what I had to say on the issue.

I'm pretty sure scouter color does not equal rank, considering the nearly all of Frieza's nameless thugs had green scouters. Also remember that as a child, Vegeta, the Prince of the Saiyans, had a green scouter. The only guys with non-green scouters were:

1. Those two scouts who destroyed Gohan and Krillin's ship. One guy had a red scouter, his partner had a blue one.
2. A couple of the guys in Dende's village had blue scouters, but due to inconsistencies, their scouters became green in later scenes during the battle.
3. The blue-haired guy with the mustache seen on Frieza Planet #79 when the Cui-lookalike was killed by the other Cui-lookalike had a red scouter. Oddly, this guy was seen way before this, as one of the checker-players in the control tower, and he had a green scouter then. Hmm...
4. All of King Cold's men have red scouters.

That's all that comes to mind, and not including movie characters.

Yeah, I think that the scouter colours are just different models and styles. Nothing to do with rank, but just the way they are.

He made a reply to the thread, I sent him a PM to tell him that he should create a new topic on it, because he made almost a year old necro post. He went to delete his previous post but couldn't.

It too random for ranks, I think the colour symbols the ablities of the scouter from being aboutto sense from level to level to the durablity of it.

I have this funny theory that Raditz wears the green scouter in honor of his Father, Bardock, mainly because Raditz seems to have a somewhat high appreciation for his family. Instances such as screaming at kakarrot in rage that he's a disgrace to their whole family and talking of how their mother and father were on the planet Vegeta when it exploded, seems to imply such. Also, wearing the green scouter in honor of Bardock seems to echo Bardock's wearing of Toma's armband.

Other than this instance, it seems like all the scouters are just randomly picked, though I will say Zarbon's is my favorite.
