No "Saiyan Smash"

Post by Deus ex Machina » Tue Jan 20, 2004 1:10 am

I was looking through the old news on the site, and I noticed a mention about the game 'Saiyan Smash'. I'm not sure if this will be news to anyone or not, but their's no such game. I'm not certain where the rumor came from, but on the dbzonps2.com forum, someone posted a e-mail from a head honcho from Bandai that completly disproved the rumor.

It would be nice if I could give you evidence, but I think the stupid name should give itself away as a rumor.

Ya I think I heard a mention of that game too a few weeks back. Didn't pay much attention to it though. Glad I didn't now. :)

I know this topic is close to dead, but I just have to ask, does anybody know if Gamecube will be getting a Dragon Ball game anytime soon seeing as PS2 owners got Budokai II? Thanks.

I'd rather get plain Dragon Ball game for GC more than anything.

I haven't heard any mention at all of Gamecube getting the liscence to any new DBZ games, but GC did get Budokai 1 eventually so maybe Budokai 2 will be ported over to Gamecube sooner or later as well.

Yeah, I would buy Budokai 2 for GC. If we got B1, there's a chance, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I suggest you do the same...

The fact that it's at least partially a Japanese game does improve its chances.

The load times are so annoying on PS2, not to mention that I think the console is crap compared to its contemporaries. DB Budokai II for GC or bust!

The load times are what any disc have. The load time is cool because you can make roshi fly. But they still should of keep zarbon in there with a cape.

*resists urge to be snippy*

True, all games have load times. But not all games take quite as long to load as Budokai. And the PS2 is notorious as having the longest load times out of any of the current 3 consoles.

Yup. And if anyone decides to challenge that, you can look at the Soul Calibur 2 comparison guide on IGN.

Edit: Here's some idea of what they say...

Boot up times for SC2: Xbox: 12 seconds, Gamecube: 17 seconds, Playstation: 24 seconds.

okay

1. Saiyan Smash was for GCN and I've yet to hear a cancellation

2. It was being made by Atari, not Bandai, so I'm not sure why a Bandai executive means anything here, especially being used on a PS2 focused site when SS wasnt even for PS2....so yeah I'll believe it when I see Atari denounce its exhistence.

That's just my point, it wasn't canceled, it never existed at all to begin with.

Saiyan Smash was actually also announced for the PS2, it was Q1 for the PS2 and Q3 for GC.

But, I can't find any info about the game, and the chance of a PS2 release in Q1 seems small now. I even doubt Saiyan Smash is indeed coming, but all well.

The head of Atari did announce 5 new Dragon Ball games for this fiscal year, one of them being a sequel to Budokai [*surprise*] Maybe Saiyan Smash will be revealed as one of them.

Hmm. It could have been a good game. Now we'll never know.

If you ask me, Atari should have merged B1 and B2 together when they made DBZB1 for the GC. I know it's wishful thinking, but it would have been better than releasing a year old game.

It wouldn't have been a case of "merging", so much as adding the story mode to Budokai 2, and putting back in the characters from the first game. Considering the similarities in engines between the games, I don't think it would have been that hard.

But what will most likely happen is that they'll release B2 for the Gamecube just before B3 comes out on PS2. Then we can buy another year old game. THE FUN!
