Mr. Sabat explaining voices

Post by Super Sonic » Sun Apr 01, 2007 12:06 am

Not sure if this goes against anything, but found this clip of Mr. Sabat explaining the voices he uses including his DBZ ones, FMA, YYH and some guy named Ayame who I have no clue who it is here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTJAEQ2lLng

Kind of nice to hear the differences explained I admit.

Ayame's from Fruits Basket.
Though in all irony, when I did watch that series I watched it subbed. XD

I've seen that clip before, very interesting. I've never been to a con so I'm always curious about the clips I find on YouTube from them.

I have to admit, I do like his Armstrong in fma. It screams of "Piccolo the Drama Coach" but it really amuses me.
On hiatus.

Watch Ayame's dub voice. Sabat did a stellar on that one!

Woah, Armstrong saying, "Gohan, do it!" That was pretty cool. I think Full Metal Alchemist is the only show where I like the dubbed version as much as the original. I wish I could go to a con.

I may not always agree with the voices they use for the characters, but I have to appreciate how voice actors are able to actually modify their voices to do those voices. That always amazes me. I'm jealous.

I know a lot of guys who say they prefer his Armstrong and Kuwabara to his DBZ characters, but yeah his Armstrong is awesome. Thought his Ayame was kind of effeminate, but my buddy says that's how the character is so it fits I guess. (Never seen Fruits Baskets).

My sisters watch a lot of FB, and I can tell you, everyone is effeminate in that show, to some degree or another.

See this goes to show you it's not just making silly voices, it's a lot more complicated than just going in and doing it, and then you're done. Especially in the DBZ cases because more often than not, they end up being all raspy. Goku's one of the only exceptions to this case.

While I'm okay with his Vegeta voice, Drummond's was definitely a step above, if not for the delivery as opposed to the different SOUNDING voice for the character. I Chris' Piccolo voice though, not that Scott McNiel isn't totally awesome, but Piccolo's probably my favorite of the million characters he's ended up playing on the show :P

Ayame being effeminate is the whole point. He's very over the top and well, gay... So he nailed it on that one!

Yeah, they'll be Syaoron and Kurogane. And Jason Liebrecht did Tapion, and the main guy on Black Cat.

Some of his voices sound the same. Not an insult though, he has a cool voice.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

He mentioned that, and the slight differences. That's how it is with many VAs.

I'd like to try voice acting someday.

I've done a few parody dubs of Dragonball Z and come out with pretty good results. I never tried taking voice acting seriously. May try it. Not sure.

Check out my dubs.
