Number of DBZ Season Volumes Likely to Expect; Division

The image above is an edit I did utilzing adobe photoshop. Judging by the art on the side sleeves and using their ratios as a guideline with the logo on the front of the jacket, it would appear we have nine sets to look forward to.

If the episode counts of the two seasons released right now is a good way to judge the amount you can look forward to in the volumes following, it might be safe to assume that the first eight volumes will encompass the entire series, as 35 ultiplied by 8 is 280 episodes, which falls short of the 315 the additional DVD Season would hold with that figure.

I have yet to see all of the movies, but the run times for the ones I have seen do not exceed 1:20 minutes while the majority were 45 minutes in length.

The two TV specials were 45 minutes a piece.

Season one advertized a run time of 900 minutes while season two advertized a run time of 800 minutes.

If the average DBZ movie is indeed one hour, as I am only guessing, at twelve movies you are looking at 720 minutes total combined, with the two TV episodes that would be 790 as a rough estimate. It may be safe to suspect that last season to be those fourteen features.

Any other ideas on how this might all be presented?

That would be great...but come on, it's Funimation....they'll probably just put less discs in the final box set. But your idea is good, maybe it will happen ;) (That is if they actually make it to the last set...*cough* Ultimate Uncut Editions *cough*)

That's not a bad estimate set-wise. Though, there are actually thirteen movies, so the run time of those combined with the remaining eleven episodes would equal almost 1,000 minutes if they decided to do that. (How did you figure only two remaining episodes? It looks like you meant to say "specials", but the minutes you figured doesn't add up with those either, if they total 90 minutes long... ) Add in the two specials, and you're looking at a set with almost 1,100 minutes of run time. (This is of course a very rough calculation on my part, but still...)

That's pretty high, even for these season sets they're putting out. I'm not sure they'll want to put that much footage onto just six discs. (And even if they did, would the compression involved in doing so make watching all of it even enjoyable? D: )

I suppose we'll see what they do with the last set when they get to it (and I'm kinda figuring they will). I'm not really sure they'll think of squeezing all of that on there, though. :|
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

I NEED A NEW SIGNATURE D:

Are they continuing the Ultimate Uncuts!? I thoguht they discontinued that line.

Well the estimate for under 800 came from my estimate on the movie lengths.

SO far I have seen Movies: 4, 5, 8, 10, 12. You are right, I forgot that there was a movie 13.

4 and 5 were under an hour in lenth. I know that 12 was over an hour, I think somewhere in the neigborhood of 1:15 minutes so I really jsut took a guess of about 1 hour a piece. 12 hours is 720 minutes with 2 tv specials for 45 minutes a piece add up to 810. With the final movie if my estimatei s anywhere near accurate that equals 870 minutes.

*EDIT*

The remaining eleven episodes I imagine will be found in the first 8 volumes if the first two are any indication of how many episodes to expect in the following volumes.

at 39 episodes times 8 volumes we would see 312 episodes by that figure. Halfway between 312 and 280 is 296, I was simply using the lower weight to illustrate what we would be looking at with the trend of 35 episodes per set. Additionally since the first set was 39 episodes and ocntinuing with the trend of 35 we would still see 284 episodes on the sets of 35 for the remaining seven volumes.

So what I was really trying to get across was that they would, with the trend of the first two seasons, reach completion of the series by the eight volume. Sorry I realize it was left kind of unclear.

No. THe line about the Ultimate Uncuts was in regard to the fact that they were discontinued and that it's hard to trust FUNi if they can't even finish up the single releases to have the whole series before going to these season sets.

Well it is only my opinion, since I really have no figures to bolster my argument, but DBZ has been leeched since about 1998; in so far as Funimation is concerned. I know new fans keep popping up, but there is definitely far less than there were years ago.

I'd imagine that Funimation stopped turning over a considerable profit compared to their other series disks awhile back.

I know this, after sinking 1600 dollars in their DVD's since the original UnCuts, I myself have been unwilling to go back and reshell that cash for the series again (though I would have for the first two seasons.)

I think it is a matter of interest.

Chalking near forty episodes into a relatively affordable season set is economical, even if what they have done with the series isn't the greatest. :/

I know I have paid Funimation the last I am going to for these remasters now that the first two volumes are released.

I was close, I was guessing 7.

Just put the whole series in those boxes and I'll be happy. Once I have money I'll be getting the Hong Kong DVDs and the Dragon Boxes.

Season 4 should have about 32 episodes I'm guessing, Garlic Jr all the way to the end of the Android Saga. Then their should be a Cell Saga box with 55 episodes, which I doubt would happen, maybe just do a Cell Saga box and then Cell games and Great Saiyaman.

Yeah, that seems more likely, but that would mean that the Cell Saga box would only have 25 episodes. Actually, I think it's more likely that they'll cut off the Cell Saga box in the middle of the Cell Games, and then the next set would contain the rest of the Cell Games, and the Saiyaman Arc. (From the first "Imperfect Cell"-episode to the final "Great Saiyaman"-episode, there are 69 episodes, so my theory would propably mean one 35-episode-set, and one 36-episode-set.)
