Where to purchase the R2 DVD's?

Post by Coach57 » Sat Jun 02, 2007 1:38 pm

I know that I can go on amazon.co.jp and purchase them but I don't speak/read japanese. I have looked at play-asia and cdjapan but they do not have any listed or in stock. Is there any other place to purchase the R2 DVD's that you guys would suggest?

I just checked out CD Japan and...they have nearly all of them in stock. Here's a link for you.

As far as searching Amazon Japan, the layout is similar to Amazon US. I usually go to Anime News Network's encyclopedia, search for Dragon Ball Z, highlight and copy the katakana, then paste it into the search window at Amazon Japan's DVD section. If you want to purchase one of them, just click on the yellow oval at the item's page. Then, click on View Cart in the upper right hand corner (it's in English). Then, at the top of the page, there should be (in English) text that says, "Would you like to see this in English?" Click it and there you have it.

Oh, also, some eBay sellers offer the DVDs for sale. Unfortunately, I forget who sells them so I can't give you a link. Sorry!

THe Katakana isnt really needed since the DVD titles are in English anyway, on amazon.co.jp anyway.

this post explains how to get the DVDs for cheaper, through different places, but it's an old post.

If you don't know Japanese I would say the best place to buy R2 DVD's would be Playasia.com or CDJapan.com.

I bought both of my R2 DVDs from Amazon Japan. They are very fast. However, the problem is that the shipping costs BIG MONAY. Also, here in Toronto, customs bit me in the ass as well.

Amazon uses flat-rate shipping. I'd recommend them for box sets or large items, but if you're buying single DVDs, I'd recommend cdjapan who charges by weight.

Eh,just to avoid any confusion,I thought I'd say that the site isn't 'CDJapan.com'

It's www.cdjapan.co.jp  That's where I buy the D-BOX Single DVDs. Both www.yesasia.com and www.playasia.com are other sites where you can buy Japanese and other R2 DVDs,as well as DVDs from China, etc. But play asia's site sells bootleg Dragon Ball DVDs just to mention, and yes asia only sells FUNi's DVDs,but both are decent sites for other R2 DVDs in general.

Actually, the ones on Play Asia aren't Hong Kong bootlegs. Those are Hong Kong's official releases. Trust me, I've seen pretty much every Dragonball bootleg DVD.

Slightly on topic, I was wondering where the best place to get a region free DVD player, what the reasonable price for one is, and if you could get one in actual stores (as in outside of online retailers).

I can personally vouch for them. Very fast shipping and the player worked very well.^^
