Saiyan Armor Ponderings

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Saiyan Armor Ponderings

Post by DaemonCorps » Fri Jun 15, 2007 1:32 pm

Woah, a simple question for once (or at least when comparing it to my other long winded questions/discussions).

When Krillin and Gohan go into Freeza's ship with Vegeta, Vegeta gives them battle armor, saying they were made for the people from the planet Lilliput (or if you're going by the Simmons translation, "Litt"). He then tells them that the armor he's wearing now was an older model because they didn't have a newer style available in his size. But wait. Since the armor stretches, how come size is even a matter?

My only explanation is that the armor stretches but still keeps its proportions (or size ratio, if that makes sense). Though, this answer only works assuming that Vegeta's body proportions remain the same when in Oozaru form (which I seriously doubt it is).

Perhaps the type of armor they were wearing wasn't designed with Saiyans in mind, thus not meant to stretch. Neither Gohan or Vegeta had their tails anymore, so Oozaru wasn't a factor.

Maybe because he's short he meant that the new models are too big. Or were Gohan and Kuririn given new models? If so then I guess my idea is wrong.

Does he really say that the armors were made for people of planet Lilliput?
I always assumed that the armors were made for Saiyan children to use when they were training. Even Vegeta as a child had one.

To add, I believe that the armor Vegeta had was of older model, and that Krillin's and Gohan's were of new model.

Too bad Toriyama threw the armor concept away. It would be cool to see the Z-fighters in those armors. At least the saiyans.

Last i checked my Viz novels Gohan and Krillin were commenting on how small they were,, and then Vegeta replies saying cause they're made for the people from Liliput.. suggestion the Liliputs are small people.

My guess is ease for larger people to get into them. Putting them on looks awkward enough as it is, now imagine putting one on that's made for someone the size of your head. Who cares if it stretches if it's too hard to put on? I just assumed Vegeta would taken the time to bother if there were no other options, but there was the older model armor available so he didn't.

This is a little off-topic, but I was wondering; is that where the name "RIT Armor" comes from in the DBZ Sagas game? I always wondered what "RIT" was, because I never heard it before playing that game.

Lilliput is the name of the country where the small people live in Gullivers Travels, so you'd be correct.

Probably. The original Japanese word for the race and planet is Ritto, which would translate to either "Litto" (as the French chose) or as "Litt" (as Steve Simmons chose). Why the Hell Viz chose to call them the Lilliput... Probably as knuckle9 pointed out, but if you ask me, it's easier to derive the pun on the word "little" from "Litt" or "Litto" than it is to assume everybody's read Gulliver's Travels. :?
