Goku instant transmission question.

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Goku instant transmission question.

Post by Crazy_vegeta » Thu Jun 28, 2007 5:56 pm

Goku used his instant transmission to teleport to King Kai's planet in the Cell Saga. How is this possible? King Kai's planet is supposed to be in heaven. Goku was alive when he teleported there.

I don't think going there when you're alive really matters. It's not physically impossible to exist in the afterlife when you're alive, so long as you have a way to get there (besides the obvious route of dying)

It's trying to go back to the living realm while dead when the rules of the universe start getting broken.

Indeed. Short of a significant realm altering event (Janemba, the Android 17s, bladiddy blah blah), all dead spirits, including those that are allowed to keep their physical bodies, are bound to the spirit world. As shown with Grandpa Gohan, Goku, and Vegeta to an interesting extend; they can only return to the living world and remain there if they're granted a special 24 hour life-force by Baba. The events in Bojack Unbound actually explain why Goku literally can't just teleport to help his fused son against Super Buu or his dear friends who're being eaten during low moments in the Fusion saga, it's not just unheard of, but with even Instantaneous Movement he is still bound to the other side; he'll only stay in the living world for not even 30 seconds before fading out of the physical plane. I always find that as a crucial reason to keep Bojack's story in the anime timeframe, it very much helps explain why Goku doesn't just poof to the living world when there seems such little hope against Buu, merely teleporting with no life-force or alive would literally be futile.

Really? I always felt the opposite: you've got a set rule of dead people can't leave the afterlife unless alive or through Baba for 24 hours. Using movie 9 as part of the anime's continuity just shows us that a whole race is capable of wreaking havoc over the Universe by popping in and out for 30 seconds.

It is all part of Toriyama's FANTASY world, nothing more.

Also, I really do hate the Dub "Instant Transmission." Can we call it Shunkan Idou or Instantaneous Movement?? :D

Was there a reason you felt the need to revive this thread just to put down the already addressed topic? :?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.

Well I didn't think it'd be a problem to post there because the subjects aren't that different...sorry for trying to help, carry on with your discussion then. :?
