Yamcha question

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Yamcha question

Post by Thanos6 » Thu Jul 05, 2007 11:46 pm

There seems to be a tendency, with Yamcha, to make him really fast. In the old Legend of the Super Saiyan RPG, sometimes he could go before his turn "should be." And in the Budokai and Sparking series, he's just all over the place; can come out of nowhere.

This is also found in a lot of fanfic, my own included.

What just struck me is, I'm not sure where this idea comes from. Off the top of my head, I can't really recall Yamcha portraying any "special speed" above what his ki would give him, like Burter.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It´s probably connected with his fast "Wolf Fang Fist".

Which actually wasn't always so fast. Used to be pretty slow if I remember correctly.

Ten, Roshi and Kami handled it pretty easily. I guess it's because he...um...

IDK...Game logic isn't the best to depend on but at the same time, his Wolf Fang w/e makes it look like he was fast. Then again, that technique meant something back in DragonBall so....Burter's the fastest in the universe, what?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

In early DB he's just another bandit. The Wolf Fang Fist gave him a small speed boost, which by early DB standards placed him among the regular budokai finalists.

You have to remember that Yamcha is weak as hell. Sure he's among Earth's super elite, but he never trained as hard as the others and started among the weaker fighters. In the Pilaf Saga, at his best with the Wolf Fang Fist he's only as strong as Goku who's at his worst. From then on he merely follows some of Goku's training methods and at a weaker intensity at that. Not the way to become the strongest.

As a result, like Kaboom said, they have to give him some kind of feature to make him a good fighter. Since the Wolf Fang Fist is a speed boost, it makes sense to say "Oh! Yamcha's specialty is speed!"

Back from Iraq and just got my account reactivated. Booyah.

Yamcha's speed is first mentioned by Goku during the 21st Budokai. Krillin asks if Yamcha is any good, to which Goku replies Yamcha was "so fast, he could barely see him."

And wow, Dayspring, I've been reading some of your past posts along with this one... I disagree with you immensely.

Um...thank you? ^_^;;

The point stands though: in early DB he's not as strong as Goku, Krillin, and Kamesennin. From there the gap only widens.
